Red Hat Associate Software Engineer - Red Hat Virtualization Engineering in Brno, Czech Republic

About the job

The Red Hat Virtualization Engineering team is looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join us in Brno, Czechia. In this role, you will be part of the team responsible for the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) firmware and other components used in our open source virtualization stack. You will be part of a larger group that cross-collaborates to implement, maintain and deliver (in partnership with open source communities) system-level virtualization features. Your contributions will be used to power offerings likeRed Hat OpenShift Virtualization (https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/cloud-computing/openshift/virtualizationň) ,Red Hat OpenStack Platform (https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/linux-platforms/openstack-platform) , andRed Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) (https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/linux-platforms/enterprise-linux) .

Good candidates for this position are typically system-level software engineers or hobbyists who are passionate about the low-level components of an operating system or platform firmware, who are comfortable with debugging register dumps, and who can read hardware specifications. New team members will have opportunities to learn unfamiliar technologies and will receive mentoring from experienced engineers and managers to develop their careers.

What you will do

  • Work as part of a geographically distributed team across many countries with several remote team members.

  • Design, implement new features, and fix bugs in open source projects such asedk2 (https://github.com/tianocore/edk2) andQEMU (https://www.qemu.org/) . Example features include Device Emulation, Memory Encryption (SEV/TDX), Virtual Trusted Platform Module (vTPM), Remote Attestation and Secure Boot.

  • Participate in multiple open source projects from theKVM (https://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Main_Page) stack like QEMU,libvirt (https://libvirt.org/) , theLinux kernel (https://www.kernel.org/) ,KubeVirt (https://kubevirt.io/) , and others.

  • Review patches and provide feedback to community-oriented enhancements and bug fixes

  • Contribute automated tests to continuous integration (CI) systems

What you will bring

  • Solid skills in C programming and relevant system-level coding experience.

  • Good understanding of Operating System internals and Computer Architecture.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Familiarity with Linux Virtualization ecosystem.

Considered a plus:

  • Experience in modern programming languages like Rust and Go

  • Understanding of open source development processes

  • Active open source contributions
