Water Plant Operator I Position: Water Plant Operator I Closing Date: Until Filled Salary: $16.40/hr POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain the water treatment plant, reservoirs and booster stations in order to provide potable water to City. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

• Performs custodial services for the City's water treatment plant and ancillary structures.
• Operates the water treatment plant, conducting bi-hourly walk-throughs to inspect equipment, chemicals and water pressure.
• Controls pumps at the plant and at remote pump stations; adjusts chemical feeds, backwashes filters and completes the daily laboratory samples when scheduled.
• Maintains and repairs equipment.
• Maintains plant structures and grounds.
• Unloads shipments of chemicals and supplies.
• Performs routine laboratory analysis.
• Must operate equipment and perform all duties and tasks in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
• May assist laboratory, maintenance and cross connection control personnel with their duties.
• May assist in fire hydrant flushing program. ? Operates and maintains system reservoirs and booster stations, monitoring tank levels and other system functions.
• Perform other related duties, as required.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• High School diploma (or GED) required, college degree or course work preferred, with one (1) to two (2) years of water treatment experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
• Must attain Grade III State Water Filtration certification within twenty-four months of date of hire
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to analyze, categorize, compare, count, differentiate, measure and/or sort data and information. Ability to assemble, copy, record, and transcribe data. Ability to classify, compute and tabulate data.
• Ability to utilize design data and information such as high tech manuals, computer languages, accounting methods, engineering manuals and educational curricula.
• Ability to add, subtract, measure, multiply and divide, and calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals.

Water Plant Operator II Position: Water Plant Operator II Closing Date: Until Filled **Salary: $17.13/hr

POSITION DESCRIPTION:**

• Performs custodial services for the City's water treatment plant and ancillary structures.
• Operates the water treatment plant, conducting bi-hourly walk-throughs to inspect equipment, chemicals and water pressure.
• Controls pumps at the plant and at remote pump stations; adjusts chemical feeds, backwashes filters and completes the daily laboratory samples when scheduled.
• Maintains and repairs equipment.
• Maintains plant structures and grounds.
• Unloads shipments of chemicals and supplies.
• Performs routine laboratory analysis.
• May collect and deliver water samples to laboratories for testing.
• May inspect water lines at commercial establishments for cross connections/backflow prevention measures.
• Must operate equipment and perform all duties and tasks in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
• May assist laboratory, maintenance and cross connection control personnel with their duties.
• May assist in fire hydrant flushing program.
• Operates and maintains system reservoirs and booster stations, monitoring tank levels and other system functions.
• May be designated as a Cross Connection Control Officer, responsible for: testing R Z's in City's water system and maintaining records of results; reviewing site plans for new and existing establishments for cross connection issues; and inspecting for cross-connections and backflow prevention measures in the city and overseeing hydrant flushing program.
• Perform other related duties, as required.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• High School diploma (or GED) required, college degree or course work preferred, with one (1) to three (3) years of water plant operations, laboratory analysis, water testing, and/or cross connection inspection experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
• Must possess Grade III State Water Filtration certification.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• May be required to possess RPZ certification.
• Ability to analyze, categorize, compare, count, differentiate, measure and/or sort data and information.
• Ability to assemble, copy, record, and transcribe data.
• Ability to classify, compute and tabulate data.
