Job Summary

Work with the team responsible for planning, developing and coordinating delivery of internal communications, external communications and public relations to support the goals, policies and day-to-day activities of the Cook Nuclear Plant and American Electric Power.

Job Description

  • Support activities as directed by the Nuclear Communications Manager to assist with strategic communication plans and tactics in print, electronic and social media to support the strategic goals of the business unit.

  • Support operation of the Cook Visitors Center and educational outreach.

  • Assist and support media relations activities for the Cook Plant. Support site Emergency Preparedness and crisis communications planning and implementation.

  • Participate in community, industry, government and regulatory agencies activities and assist in managing relationships with key external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and align site communications with AEP's goals, culture and corporate Compliance Policy.

  • Assist with monitoring communication effectiveness with feedback mechanisms and performance metrics and make adjustments as necessary.

  • Coordinate and/or assist with plant tours, special events, plant meetings and public events.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR NUCLEAR COMMS REP:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other related public relations discipline.

Work Experience:

  • 2 years as a Nuclear Communications Rep Associate

  • 4 years' experience in communications or public relations related field.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong written and oral communication ability.

  • Competency in communications related equipment and software (photography, desktop publishing, videography/editing, graphic design social media and web).

  • Nuclear experience not required but would be considered a plus to the position.

Physical Demands:

  • May require working in a plant environment which may include exposure to heat, cold, noise, and radiation exposure.

  • May require working flexible hours/shifts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR NUCLEAR COMMS CONSULTANT, SENIOR:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other related public relations discipline.

Work Experience:

  • 2 years' experience as Nuclear Communications Representative

  • Or 7 years in communications or public relations related field.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong written and oral communication ability.

  • Competency in communications related equipment and software (photography, desktop publishing, videography/editing, graphic design social media and web).

  • Nuclear experience not required but would be considered a plus to the position.

  • Physical demand level is Sedentary.

  • May require working in a plant environment which may include exposure to heat, cold, noise, and radiation exposure.

  • May require working flexible hours/shifts.

Must establish & maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe driving distance to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant.

Salary Range posted from minimum - mid-point:

Nuclear Comms Rep (SG 05) – Nuclear Comms Consultant, Sr. (SG 07): $60,438 - $104,268
