M&T Bank Credit Team Leader II in Bridgeport, Connecticut

Overview:

Responsible for the quality and efficiency of the underwriting of commercial loan analyses of a regional Loan Analysis team. Interact on a daily basis with senior management of both the Credit Division and Commercial Banking regarding the underwriting of major commercial loan requests.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day to day activities of a regional team of Credit Analysts and Portfolio Managers to include the quality and efficiency of the underwriting of commercial loan analyses.

  • Serve as the point person for work requests, prioritizes and assigns work, and monitors work flow.

  • Maintain the quality of analyses produced, based on a program of prescreening credits, mentoring the analysts and portfolio managers and reviews final work prior to submission to appropriate credit authority.

  • Support various Regions in terms of credit analysis functions.

  • Oversee the training of new credit analysts and portfolio managers and other Loan Analysis staff as required.

  • Provides ongoing training to the department. Develop training materials and various forms.

  • Maintain work logs and prepare monthly productivity reports for management, and other reports, as needed.

  • Coordinate updates to the Credit Analysis Procedures Manual, writes procedures and develops analysis templates as needed.

  • Resolve any policy and procedure, accounting or credit issues that occur.

  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Assist the Regional Credit Officers and various Loan Committees in making timely and informative decisions on credit requests for both new and existing customers, within Bank lending parameters.

Trains credit analysts and portfolio managers to build bench strength within the Loan Analysis unit.

Position interacts on an ongoing basis with senior management both in Credit and Commercial Banking.

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

Supervises and mentors a team of anywhere from 4-10 credit analysts, portfolio manager, and administrative staff.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline with 7 years’ commercial credit experience (including 2 years as a senior credit analyst) with three years supervisory or work leadership experience or in lieu of degree a combined minimum of 11 years higher education and work experience to include a minimum 7 years’ commercial credit experience (including 2 years as a senior credit analyst) with three years supervisory or work leadership experience.

Education and Experience Preferred:

MBA.

Word, Excel, various Bank systems (AFS, Datalink, Hogan, etc).

Moody’s Risk Analyst spreadsheet system.

Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate others.

Commitment to meeting the needs of both the internal and external customers of the department.

Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

Ability to maximize efficiency and maintain the consistent quality of the work produced by the credit analysis team.

Exhibit a strong work ethic and consistently meet deadlines.

Extensive knowledge of Bank's credit policies and procedures.
