M&T Bank Commercial Leasing-Senior Portfolio Analyst in Bridgeport, Connecticut

Overview:

Responsible for the ongoing monitoring of an assigned portfolio of accounts with an exposure up to $10MM or higher to ensure timely and accurate credit risk ratings and compliance with both credit policy and loan agreements. Interact daily with management and the sales team.

Primary Responsibilities:

Individual contributor that is intimately involved in continuous credit monitoring (CCM) for a portfolio of commercial clients for more complex credits. Provide an independent credit quality assessment of the Bank's larger commercial clients identifying appropriate risk rating, credit risks and mitigates, industry concerns, market trends, financial trends, and other pertinent credit issues.

Individually assess ongoing risk of an assigned portfolio with exposures up to $10MM or more including direct and indirect/syndication relationships and group participations. Financial statements are of varying qualities including are not limited to publicly traded companies. A CCM program includes but is not limited to annual reviews, interim update memos, CCAR compliance, post-closing modifications and underwriting transfers and assumptions and stock purchases, a covenant monitoring program, transfer of qualified credits to the workout team, early warning indicators, and other forms of credit surveillance.

Support various regions in terms of credit analysis functions by partnering proactively with the sales and underwriting teams to prepare thoughtful risk assessment of customers on an ongoing basis to identify emerging risks or material changes in customers financial position, including evaluation of compliance with the loan agreement.

Evaluate and determine the ongoing credit risks and corresponding risk rating of commercial clients through detailed financial statement spreading and analysis, industry assessment, collateral valuation, cash flow analysis and the ability to repay annual debt service.

May provide mentoring to more junior analysts.

Maintain work logs and prepare monthly productivity reports for management, and other reports, as needed. May maintain collateral worklogs, track floor planning, may report on industry specific risk profiles for aviation, marine and/or truck transportation as required by management. Maintain account specific worklogs.

Maintain an in-depth knowledge of accounting pronouncements and the effect on Bank credits.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.

Prepare for and present at quarterly portfolio risk analyst meetings with senior management.

Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Ensure that risk ratings are timely and accurate, and Regional Credit Officers and various Loan Committees have appropriate details to make timely and informative decisions on credit requests for existing customers, within Bank lending parameters.

May train and mentor more junior analysts to build bench strength within the department.

Initiation authority of all modification memorandums.

Position interacts on an ongoing basis with senior management both in Credit and Commercial Banking.

Frequent client interaction.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline with 3 years’ related experience or in lieu of degree a combined minimum of 5 years’ higher education and/or work experience to include a minimum 2 years’ related experience.

Additional Job Requirements

Excellent understanding of financial statements and accounting terminologies with ability to effectively spread, analyze and present complex credits according to policy accurately and independently.

Excellent written, verbal, presentation and negotiation skills are needed to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

Ability to handle escalated situations using excellent interpersonal, negotiating and problem-solving skills.

Excellent analytical skills are needed to develop and implement effective solutions to complex credit situations.

Excellent PC skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, internal software and leasing software. Ability to learn to use additional applications as needed.

Equipment Leasing Background a plus.

Ability to work independently and use own discretion.

Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in an independent manner.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $74,286.06 - $123,810.11 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
