Job Summary and Qualifications
The Physician Services Group (PSG) is responsible for several lines of business, including Physician Practices, Hospital-based Physician Services, Urgent Care Services, Graduate Medical Education, Lab Services, and Anesthesia Services. PSG currently has over 9,000 providers and 1,500+ physician practices. PSG is growing rapidly in the Urgent Care setting, with 255+ Urgent Care Clinics. The Graduate Medical Education program is the largest in the world with over 4000 residents. PSG ITG is integral to the success of meeting the demands of such rapid growth. PSG ITG supports centralized departments comprised of multiple business areas, such as Financial Services, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Protection and Security, Ethics & Compliance, Quality and Government Programs, Coding Operations and HIM, Ambulatory EHR, Management Services, Marketing and Digital Services, Physician Development, and Practice Operations.
Job Summary: Primary Purpose of the job
The Application Engineer is a part of the Physician Services Group organization of HCA. This technically-focused position with the Data Management and Business Intelligence team is responsible for designing, developing, testing and deploying our business intelligence solutions across the enterprise. This goal will be achieved by working with cross-functional business teams and utilizing SQL, Teradata, Oracle, and other database platforms, tools, and database design principals. This position also provides administrative and architectural support for MicroStrategy. The Application Engineer is responsible for database functions including developing queries, ETL/ELT, administrative tasks, and supporting dashboard and report solutions development at PSG.
The Application Engineer will collaborate with Business Customers, Department Heads, and Project teams, provide leadership regarding application design, as well as support and develop subject matter knowledge for internally developed applications. The Application Engineer is responsible for application creation, administrative tasks, and supporting dashboard and report solutions development.
Experience/ Requirements:
Technical
Experience in data acquisition, data cleansing and parsing required.
Experience in data analysis, modeling and visualization required.
Experience in Teradata SQL or extensive experience in other ANSI SQL languages (e.g., MSSQL, Oracle, Postgres) required.
Experience in the areas of data structures and data warehousing required.
MicroStrategy, Business Objects, or other Enterprise BI tools.
Report writing experience helpful.
Soft
Strong analytical and design skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Independently works with customers on a 1:1 basis, as well as in teams.
Contribute to the design, construction and implementation of software and analytics solutions in the BI development environment.
Works to build technical knowledge by taking advantage of internal team mentoring and attending professional development opportunities.
Ability to apply fundamental concepts and principles gained through experience to solve both straightforward and moderately complex problems.
Self-driven learner of technology and programming.

Technical:
Knowledge of Clinical and Financial Applications.
Knowledge of EMR or Practice Management Systems such as E-Clinical Works, Epic, GE Centricity, NextGen, etc.

Demonstrates continual learning and improvement of knowledge and expertise in the health industry data standard as well as industry applications and tools.
Ability to create clear and concise documentation on design and operational topics.
Partners with colleagues and customers to achieve meaningful discussions regarding data outputs and feedback on usage activities to improve Data and Analytics output.
