As the lead for legal activities for the company across the region, business units and sub-function areas in the country and/or across multiple countries, you identify business needs and design, develop and drive the implementation of Mondelēz International ’s legal strategy through the service delivery model and governance to support commercial and corporate initiatives. You lead and advise the business on risk, anticipating and addressing internal and external factors, direct other legal colleagues in the execution of our legal approach, and decide the direction to take to address legal issues or concerns. In addition, you are also a leader and expert in a legal specialty area of responsibility or are a region or business unit lead; lead, review and revamp legal teams in a continuously changing environment; and ensure the availability of new technologies, systems and services in the strategy framework.

How you will contribute

You will lead in setting and implementing legal strategies that enable Mondelēz International to compete and to protect our people, assets and reputation while complying with legal requirements and standards of ethical conduct. In addition to these contributions, you will also lead the legal team in providing legal services to the company at an optimal cost considering internal and external resources, technologies and systems; provide legal guidance to ensure managers make informed decisions regarding legal operational risks; manage the legal strategy with outside counsel, including spending without compromising financial and reputational risk; address the complex legal environment by partnering with business units, regions and global stakeholders to identify and advise on laws and regulatory changes for a given country and/or across multiple countries identifying risks and opportunities for the company.

More about this role

What you need to know about this position:

  • Advising the DACH organisation, executives, and management as well as subsidiaries on complex collective labour, social, in particular works constitutional and collective bargaining law topics and issues as well as on matters of employee data protection and related legal areas with an international approach.

  • Coordinating, advising on the content of and steering the company's affairs regarding negotiations and the conclusion of agreements with the general works council and the local works council bodies.

  • Leading Works Council negotiations needed for the development and implementation of projects in accordance with relevant legal requirements and regulations.

  • Reviewing, screening, and managing information on changes in and on new EU and local legislation in labour and social law, on legal and collective bargaining developments, and supporting their implementation in practice.

  • Drafting of statements and legal opinions highlighting legal risks and recommendations for action re to collective labour law for the management and the leadership team.

  • Employment law advice and management of restructurings, operational changes, spin-offs, and merger & acquisition activities and projects.

  • Lead collective labour law litigation and respective legal proceedings in coordination and cooperation with external lawyers.

  • Managing and supervising the Legal budget for external Legal Counsels for Labour Law

  • Collaboration and negotiations with trade unions

MEU Scope:

Work on a holistic strategic approach for labour relations management on EU level – in close cooperation with the Regional People Lead MEU and the EWC Chair

  • Monitors closely EU labour legislation changes and coordinates the translation of those into operational implementation

  • Act as a strategic advisor for key negotiations preparation on local and regional level

  • Manages possible escalation and litigation cases on European level

Education / Certifications:

  • Fully qualified lawyer (above-average state law examinations) with a focus on labour law.

  • At least 10 years of relevant practical experience, ideally in a human resources and/or legal department of an international group of companies or as senior lawyer in a reputable international law firm specialized in collective labour Law

  • Extensive knowledge of individual and collective labour law, including in-depth knowledge of employee data protection law

  • Extensive and long-standing familiarity with working with co-determination bodies

  • Be able to demonstrate many years of experience in collective labour law litigation and in leadership of major and complex projects

  • Have excellent negotiating skills, strong assertiveness and diplomatic skills

  • Have conceptual strength, analytical thinking, strong entrepreneurial skills and a strong business acumen; strong resilience and able to work fast and under pressure;

  • Demonstrate a structured, solution-oriented and pragmatic way of working

  • Be able to demonstrate decision-making and implementation skills, as well as problem-solving competence coupled with a confident and authoritative manner

  • Preferably have knowledge of collective agreements in the consumer goods industry

  • A fluent command of German and English and a confident use of MS Office.
