We are seeking a Senior Ecologist (NDEC Ecologist 3) to join our Brecksville, OH team! Come join us!
The person filling this role will help manage projects involving conducting field assessments and preparing government agency permitting for wetland and ecological projects. Most of the work is located in Ohio in surrounding states. This position will require both field assignments and office duties, eventually to staff and client management.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Participate/lead wetlands and waters delineation field work, report writing, and federal & state JD requests.
• Prepare permit applications for USACE, Ohio EPA, PADEP and others.
• Coordinate with USFWS, NMFS, OEPA, PADEP, PADCNR, and others regarding T&E species effects determinations.
• Conduct wetland and stream assessments using ORAM, HHEI, QHEI, VIBI, and Pennsylvania’s Level 2 assessment procedures.
• Participate in wetland, stream and terrestrial restoration and mitigation projects.
• Identify native and invasive plant species that are common in the US.
• Report preparation.
• Budgeting and proposals for new jobs.
• Training staff.
• Support other disciplines as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
• Undergraduate degree in botany, plant biology, wildlife biology, or related natural resource field is required. MS in the same disciplines is preferred.
• 5-10 years’ experience related to project management, client relations, staff management, wetland delineation, functional assessment, permitting and restoration; botanical surveys; threatened and endangered species surveys; native vegetation identification and restoration, design, and management; invasive species control; and wildlife habitat restoration.
• A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required.
• The position will require travel, including occasional overnight and out of state work.
• Applicants must meet requirements for employment in the U.S.
• Experience with GIS analysis and designing field data collection routines.
Technical Requirements:
• Familiarity with natural resource regulations.
• Experience with GPS technology, ArcGIS and electronic field data collection. A GIS certificate is a plus.
• Experience in preparing state and Corps of Engineers Permits.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, technical writing skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and changing priorities without missing deadlines or losing sight of overall project goals.
• Ability to travel, primarily in the Midwest and northeastern regions, with potential for travel throughout the U.S.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, traverse rough terrain, and experience in working in inclement weather with exposure to sun and insects.
• Ability to work independently with little direct supervision, self-motivated with sound professional judgement
Other Miscellaneous Qualities:
• Knowledge and understanding of the NEPA process and completion of Environmental Assessments and similar documents.
• Experience with ODOT procedures for environmental assessments.
• Experience with stormwater permitting.
• Experience with field surveys for linear projects such as pipeline, transmission line, or renewable energy projects.
• Previous experience with environmental consulting and project and budget management.
