Essentia Health Nurse Resident - New Grad RN in Brainerd, Minnesota
Job Description:
The Nurse Resident is a new graduate Registered Nurse (RN). The Nurse Resident is accountable for the coordination of nursing care. The Nurse Resident supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of patients and families. The Nurse Resident will function within the Essentia Health’s Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The Nurse Resident contributes to the meeting of the mission and goals of the facility and Essentia Health. The Nurse Resident meets the requirements of the Joint Commission, if applicable, and/or other federal, state, and local regulatory or accrediting agencies. The Nurse Resident possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in collaborating; and may participate on committees or projects. The Nurse Resident will be actively involved in Essentia Health’s approach to Magnet Nursing Recognition and the pursuit of Nursing excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
Coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care.
Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
Plan and delegate, as appropriate, patient care according to skill level, experience, patient intensity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources.
At the conclusion of the Nurse Residency program, nurses will:
Transition from novice nurse towards competent professional nurse in a clinical environment.
Develop effective clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
Demonstrate clinical nursing leadership skills at the point of care.
Feel a strengthened commitment to nursing clinical practice at the point of care.
Demonstrate the ability to incorporate research and evidence-based practice into care and link it to practice and patient outcomes.
Demonstrate a stronger commitment to nursing as a profession.
Essentia Health’s Nurse Residency program is a structured evidence-based practice experience that focus on professional nursing practice concepts. The American Nurses Association: Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing provide the basis for the practice of the RN.
The Nurse Resident meets the requirements of the Joint Commission, if applicable, and/or other federal, state, and local regulatory or accrediting agencies.

Required Qualifications:
Nursing Student currently enrolled in the final year of the student’s accredited nursing program or, a current graduate of an accredited nursing program or beginning first position within Essentia Health within first year post-graduation, and a graduate of an accredited nursing program

Required Qualifications
Current nursing licensure in state(s) of employment upon date of hire.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within one month.

Shift Rotation Availability: D/N, D/E (D/E limited to specific unit availability)
FTE available: 0.8FTE (0.7 or 0.9 may be available with unit availability)
May be opportunity for 12 hour shifts limited to unit availability after date of hire.
