Position Details

General Statement

Under the supervision of the Director, the person in this position will maintain facilities and equipment for the School of Art academic faculty to facilitate their ongoing teaching and creative research responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining all portable and fixed equipment and tools as directed

  • Responsible for property and inventory control protocols

  • Assemble new equipment and furniture as directed

  • Performing general maintenance in all studios

  • Assisting the Director in handling safety concerns and questions

  • Operating and maintaining a variety of specialized equipment, hand and power tools, and occasionally moving and carrying heavy equipment and materials.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated competence using, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of power and hand tools.

  • General knowledge of art processes and materials

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • General knowledge of foundry, ceramic, welding and cutting equipment.

    The Successful Candidate Will

  • The ability to work with a diverse group of people.

  • The ability to prioritize the needs of faculty and staff

  • The ability to troubleshoot and solve various mechanical problems not related to areas covered by Facilities Services.

  • The ability to repair and maintain machinery, i.e. power and hand tools, printmaking, woodshop, metalsmithing and ceramics tools and equipment.

  • Experience with a variety of power tools; general knowledge of carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing systems and ventilation systems.

  • Maintain a consistent 30 hr a week work schedule, likely to include two day and two early evening shifts per week. (To be negotiated with supervisor)

Physical Demands

Ability to transport 75 lbs., work in cramped spaces, and ascend tall ladders.
