Assistant Teaching Professor in Professional/Applied Communication and Public Speaking Bowling Green State University Salary: Depends on Qualifications Job Type: Full-Time Faculty Division: A&S Dean Opening Date: 11/15/2024 Location: Main Campus (BG), OH Job Number: BGSU00603 Department: A&S Dean Closing: Summary The School of Media and Communication at Bowling Green State University invites applications for a full-time, Assistant Teaching Professor position in Professional/Applied Communication and Public Speaking. This is a 9-month, renewable, non-tenure track position. We seek a dynamic educator committed to teaching excellence and student success to contribute to our professional communication and public speaking curriculum. The start date is August 2025. School of Media and Communication The School of Media and Communication (SMC) is one of 17 academic units in the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our College, aligned with the university's strategic plan, is to ensure that our students graduate career-ready to meet the world's challenges, and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries, with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching, scholarly/creative work, and/or service toward achieving inclusive excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. The College is committed to faculty success, providing resources and support within the Dean's Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools, leadership teams in other colleges, and university-serving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. Through these connections, we have developed a comprehensive, cohort-based mentorship program to support the professional growth and advancement of faculty across all disciplines and ranks. We value and practice shared governance and are committed to maintaining a vibrant and equitable working environment. The SMC is home to 30 full-time faculty with national and international reputations, 460 undergraduate majors, and more than 100 graduate students. Undergraduates pursue baccalaureate degrees in advertising, communication, journalism and public relations, media production, and studies, and they engage in various student media groups. Graduate students can pursue M.A or Ph.D. degrees in Media and Communication. The Ph.D. program has 28 students in 3 emphasis areas: Critical Media and Rhetoric, Interpersonal Communication, Media Audiences and Processes. Our SMC faculty are devoted to student success at all academic levels, embrace multiple methodologies, and work collaboratively. The School of Media and Communication strives to develop individuals who contribute meaningfully to society, support civic engagement, and shape the future as global professionals. The School of Media and Communication is housed in the Kuhlin Center. The Kuhlin Center is a unique production facility that sets a standard for education in a production control room environment. Production spaces include a 1,740 sq. ft. studio and a 300sq. ft. insert studio, a 900 sq. ft. audio recording studio, two student-managed radio stations, and a convergence lab.
