Position Summary

The Coordinator, Aquatics & Safety, under the direction of the Assistant Director, Facilities is responsible for administering a comprehensive aquatics and safety program including: creating and implementing programs; hiring, training and supervising student employees; facilitating risk management training; and ensuring Campus Recreation & Wellness meets University, local, state, and national requirements.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Aquatic Management

  • Plan and supervise risk management protocols for the aquatic facility operations. Operate aquatic facility to meet all applicable state and local health standards. Obtain necessary facility inspections and certificates

  • Oversee proper water testing, chemical supply ordering, and proper storage of chemicals for the aquatic facility

  • Assists external and internal partners with the coordination and supervision of the preventative maintenance plan for all aquatics equipment associated with the Bill Powell Natatorium

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate aquatic facility staff. Plan, coordinate, and implement staff training, in-services, and water safety skills testing

  • Assist with the development, implementation, evaluation, and enforcement of all rules and regulations pertaining to the aquatic facility

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director, Facilities to coordinate the scheduling and supervision of the aquatic facility by campus and community groups

  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate aquatic programs, to include group and private swim lesson programs and special event programming

Safety Management

  • Lead risk management for the department by supervising American Red Cross instructors and managing the CPR class schedule.

  • Coordinate and facilitate certification courses in American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid, and Water Safety Instructor for employees and the community

  • Evaluate and reduce risk in the department as well as ensuring student staff certifications and trainings are up to date.

Fiscal Management

  • Develop and manage Aquatic and Safety operational budget in accordance with university and departmental policies

  • Develop and manage the Aquatic equipment and maintenance budget

  • Monitor and execute bi-weekly payroll information and operating expenses

Departmental Responsibilities

  • Serve on departmental committees and work teams to accomplish collaborative goals of the department.

  • Fulfill night and weekend responsibilities as needed.

  • Position shall include but is not limited to the duties listed above. May perform other duties assigned to help maintain Campus Recreation & Wellness operations and services.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • At least two (2) years of experience in managing university or community aquatic facilities (graduate assistantships, undergraduate employment, and internships are acceptable for determining minimum required experience).

  • At least one (1) year of personnel supervision experience (student staff, graduate assistant, or full-time personnel supervision is acceptable).

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification or willing to obtain/recertify within first 3 months of employment

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or willing to obtain/recertify within first 6 months of employment

    Additional Information:

Hourly Range: $17.44 -$20.51
