Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Assistant Coach for Men's and Women's Track and Field. This is a full-time, 12-month position. This position reports directly to the Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Track/Cross Country programs. Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

  • Coach practice sessions and workouts; responsible for Sprints/Hurdles/Horizontal Jumps/Relays and Multis; assist with coaching responsibilities during athletics events; attend coaches' preparatory meetings and implement strategies resulting from these meetings.

  • Develop a comprehensive and functional knowledge of the sport, and maintain thorough and continual familiarity with all applicable University, Conference USA, and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Scout for and recruit quality student-athletes and coordinate recruiting activities with the head coach and the Associate Athletics Director.

  • Assist in the implementation of the academic program, including the monitoring of individual student-athlete's progress to ensure academic eligibility, the enforcement of study and tutorial programs, and referral to appropriate University academic resources.

  • Work with student-athletes and monitor adherence to rules and regulations concerning conduct, appearance, and behavior.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:

  • Must be self-motivated.

  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Ability to do event set-ups.

  • The duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed in a competent manner following the highest standards for leadership, professionalism, integrity, accountability, responsibility, cooperation and customer service.

  • NCAA, Conference USA and WKU policies and procedures must be kept in mind at all times.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Minimum two years' experience coaching in the sport.
