Residence Life at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Senior Assistant Director of Residential Operations ! This role is responsible for the management of operational functions that support more than 8,000 residents in 24 different residence halls and up to 2,000 residents in apartment-style living. The main responsibilities of this role include leading meetings, oversight of community center/front desks, establishing customer service guidelines, management of move-in, move-out, and break periods, and development of standard operating procedures. This role also liaises heavily with partners in University Housing, Housing Facilities Services, Access Services, and CU Conference Services. The Senior Assistant Director directly supervises 2-3 Sr. Community Center Coordinators & 1-2 Coordinators of Residential Operations and indirectly supervises 5-7 Community Center Coordinators and 100+ student staff members. This role requires strong attention to process oriented details and the ability to plan multiple processes concurrently.

Residence Life

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Operations & Administration

  • Guide residence life initiatives to create a seamless operational and administrative environment that exceeds student needs and expectations.

  • Chair departmental committees and represent the department to the university and Boulder community committees as assigned.

  • Manage key operational processes, for both residence halls and apartments, such as move-in, admissions visit days, break coverage and transitions, and closing/move-out.

  • Support apartment staff in the completion of apartment-turn and damage billing processes.

  • Be responsible for departmental customer service initiatives, processes, and training.

  • Serve as a residence life liaison to Housing Facilities Services, Environmental Services, Campus Dining Services, University Housing, Access Services, and finance units.

  • Manage Residence Life Manuals, Memos, and Standard Operation Procedures, ensuring regular updates and on-time distribution.

  • Assist in coordination of response to facility concerns, and vandalism, in residence halls and apartments.

  • Partner closely with Student Affairs Communications to create and send student and family-facing communication about operational processes, such as move-in.

  • Supervise in-hall administrative processes, ensuring staff complete Change of Status forms, Room Condition Forms, Apartment inventories, etc promptly.

  • Maintain inventory of all departmentally managed spaces, coordinating office moves, access, and updates as needed.

  • Support the professional staff, and Faculty In Residence onboarding & off-boarding experience by ensuring apartments are prepared, cleaned, and furniture is maintained.

  • Partner closely with CU Conference Services to support front-desk operations throughout the summer.

Supervision

  • Directly supervise 1-3 Community Operations Coordinators, 2-3 Senior Community Center Coordinators, and indirectly supervises 4-6 Community Center Coordinators, and 100+ student staff members in multiple capacities.

  • Assist in the implementation of processes to recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate very hardworking, student affairs-focused staff at all position levels of Residence Life.

  • Conduct intentional performance reviews for professional staff and maintain ongoing accountability focused on learning.

  • Assist professional staff to build inclusive and caring relationships with student staff and students within the residential community.

  • Ensure compliance with student staff facing processes, such as late pay processing, shift scheduling, and training.

  • Facilitate Assistant Director meetings, prepare agendas, and motivate peers to ensure completion of assigned tasks.

  • Train residence life professional staff and student staff on operational procedures.

  • Oversee the ACUHO-i summer internship recruitment, selection, onboarding, and development processes.

External Relations

  • Provide excellent support and leadership to all external partners through service-minded attention to the broader housing, student affairs, and university missions.

  • Serve and lead student affairs committees as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with campus partners to coordinate residence life response to high-impact events, including adjustment to building access and building locking plans.

  • Talk to parents regarding concerns for students in the halls.

  • Assist with Orientation.

  • Assist with conference services with summer conference operations.

  • Serve as a departmental liaison to Housing Facilities Services, Environmental Services, Access Services, the Buff OneCard office, and Integrated Security.

  • Serve as a liaison to non-University contractual partners such as cleaning services, laundry services, and mail services.

Strategic Planning

  • Support the development and furthering of the organizational philosophy, mission, and programs within Residence Life.

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and interpretation of benchmarking and community surveys for residence life.

  • Assist in the development and provide leadership for the completion of residence life strategic goals and initiatives.

  • Act as representative of Residence Life, and student affairs on campus.

  • Participate in vision creation, resources, and strategic implementation in the Residence Life strategic planning process.

  • Provide exceptional leadership for all professional and student staff, strategic planning, implementation, and assessment, all assigned initiatives, and all committee work in Residence Life, and the Division of Student Affairs.

  • Partner with the Student Affairs Planning Assessment and Data Analytics office to review operational assessment data, using metrics to drive future success.

Fiscal Resource Management

  • Administer all fiscal processes with maximum integrity and timeliness.

  • Follow all federal, state, university, and departmental budget procedures.

  • Assist in managing the residence life budgets, ensuring areas of responsibility remain at, or under, budget.

  • Allocate budget dollars to support critical initiatives.

  • Research and propose areas of efficiency within the area of responsibility. Track and report annual efficiencies.

Emergency Response

  • Serve in an on-call rotation for 10,000+ residents.

  • Provide crisis management assistance through immediate response and follow up.

  • Uphold departmental and university crisis response policies and procedures.

What You Should Know

The work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm with some evenings and weekends required. A flexible work schedule of hybrid work may be available. This position serves in an emergency on-call rotation that requires occasional physical response to campus on nights and weekends.

What We Can Offer

The starting salary for this position is $73,000-$75,000 annually.
