Job Summary

The Student Academic Success Center at CU Boulder invites applications for a Program Specialist! This half-time (0.50 FTE) university staff position is the Program Specialist for The White Antelope Memorial & First Nations Program hosted by the McNeill Academic Program in the Student Academic Success Center at the University of Colorado Boulder.

This position reports to the Assistant Director, McNeill Academic Program. The Program Specialist works as part of a collaborative team to implement the plan of operations and serves as a delegate on independent projects or special services. The Program Specialist is the team lead on services for special student populations, including Native and Indigenous students.

The Program Specialist contributes to the outreach cycle of recruitment, admissions, and orientation; the retention cycle of mentor, instruction, and enrichment activities; the financial cycle of budget, procurement, and reconciliation (including scholarship disbursement and work study requests); and the evaluation cycle of data collection, assessment, and reporting.

This position handles a high-contact model of student success into a 6-year pathway of academic services that improves recruitment, persistence, graduation, and post-baccalaureate outcomes for eligible participants. This position requires collegiality, professionalism, and problem-solving initiative under a high-volume, highly collaborative workload. Who We Are

The McNeill Academic Program is an institutionally funded educational opportunity program that serves 500+ eligible students. Its goal is to improve academic achievement in preparation for professional success of our diverse learners. It hosts the White Antelope Memorial & First Nations Program. It is part of the pre-college to post-baccalaureate pathway in the Student Academic Success Center (SASC).

SASC is an educational opportunity center in the Office of Undergraduate Education within Academic Affairs. We are a mission-inspired learning community of students, faculty, and staff from backgrounds that are historically underrepresented, under-resourced, or under-served at the University of Colorado Boulder. We have a 50+ year history of supporting student success on our flagship campus.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Program Management:

  • Leads daily operations of this educational opportunity program through its annual cycle from high school outreach to alumni relations. Works with the Assistant Director to implement plan of operations, including scholarship disbursement, workshop facilitation, enrichment activities, and collaborative projects with center, campus, and community partners. Performs delegated independent duties to ensure delivery of required and permissible services based on logic model with a focus on special student populations, including Native and Indigenous students.

Academic Management:

  • Mentors a multi-cohort caseload of White Antelope Memorial & First Nations students and other special student populations to support whole-student model of personal, academic, and professional success. Coordinates small-group mentor sessions on academic success, financial literacy, and career readiness. Develops advocacy, enrichment, and success plans for individual students based on high-need or high-risk factors advised by national practices and education research. Assists students in skill-building and goal-planning from matriculation to graduation with a focus on special student populations, including Native and Indigenous students.

Records Management:

  • Works with Assistant Director to design and implement record management for program assessment and budget planning, including formative and summative evaluation of services, staffing, and resources. Coordinates and contributes to improvements of all record-keeping systems, caseload files, financial documents, and collaborator reports. Works with Assistant Director on collecting, assessing, and applying annual performance data with a focus on special student populations.

Communications Management:

  • Works with Assistant Director to implement multimedia communication plan for engagement of participants; training staff and faculty; stewardship of donors; and outreach to alumni. Designs and maintains website, newsletter, and social media accounts. Works with Assistant Director on strategic relations material for internal and external partners with a focus on the White Antelope Memorial & First Nations Program and other special student populations.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this 50% FTE position will be $26,000 - $27,500 annually, the hourly equivalent of $25.00 - $26.44.

What We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or Social Work or any discipline-based field.

  • A minimum of one year one (1) year of experience coordinating an educational opportunity program at a 2-year or a 4-year institution.

  • At least one (1) year of experience teaching, advising, or supervising undergraduate students from TRiO-eligible backgrounds, including Native and Indigenous students.

What You Will Need

Knowledge of higher education support for special student populations, including Native and Indigenous students. Skills in data management and social media marketing. Ability to facilitate multi-modality workshops and services for on-campus or on-line participants. Proficiencies in the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) Native Knowledge 360 Crucial Understandings about Indigenous Peoples or immediate capacity to learn. Abilities in crafting and sustaining networks, affiliations, and partnerships with community groups, students groups, and campus units.
