Job Summary

The Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at CU Boulder welcomes applications for a PostDoctoral Associate.

The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The University of Colorado Boulder's Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences hosts one of the largest aerospace education and research efforts in the world with unique laboratory facilities, collaborative research environments, and immersive educational opportunities. Within the Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences, the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research (CCAR) is dedicated to working across disciplines to integrate satellite applications for the study of geophysical processes, space science, navigation, and remote sensing of the Earth and planets. The PI's radio frequency (RF) electronics lab includes electronic equipment, radar transmitters and receivers from HF to UHF, and data acquisition systems to support research in radar system design, development, and deployment across the necessary bands. Postdoctoral associates will have access to this state-of-the-art laboratory, which contains extensive RF test and measurement equipment, cabling, connectors, components, and antennas suitable for signals from baseband through the UHF band. In addition to the RF electronics lab, the Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences also hosts several manufacturing shops (Electronics, Machine and Test Cell, Pilot, Wood and Composites) that contain any additional instrumentation necessary to develop hardware and software simulation environments to design, prototype and test remote sensing technologies and solutions.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The project will focus on studying the feasibility and potential of using natural and anthropogenic signals of opportunity for passive noise radar measurements (echo detection, ranging, and imaging). The candidate will work to identify and evaluate passive noise radar illumination sources as signals of opportunity for environmental remote sensing. The candidate will develop signal processing algorithms to exploit promising illuminators for observing environmental features and performing moving target sensing. The main tasks of the candidate will be to develop and improve algorithms and software to perform the data processing and analysis for the passive noise radar project.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 annually. This position is nominally for one year with the possibility of continuation contingent on performance and funding availability.
