Program Overview
The Climate Aligned Industries (CAI) programworks to decarbonize heavy industry and heavy transportation. We collaborate with a global network of businesses, financial institutions, and policymakers to facilitate and scale emissions reductions in these industrial sectors.One of CAIspriorities is to catalyzethe development ofnew clean technologies (i.e., Hydrogen, CCS, Biofuels)through industrial hubs.
The Position Overview
RMIis seeking a Senior Associate to support the CAI team in evaluating and designing solutions for industrial hub development with a focus on community. Specifically looking at what benefits and opposition a region can expect from new industrial development across the value chain, developing meaningful community engagement plans, practices and principles, facilitating sessions with stakeholders to address topics of labor, workforce training and environmental justice, and articulating compelling key messages about hub projects. This position will provide support to several RMI projects focused on delivering clean industrial hubs (hydrogen and low carbon fuels).In particular, this position will evaluate community impacts and benefits for US Hydrogen Hub development.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate project opportunities and downfalls based on best practice ESG criteria and learnings from previous large scale energy projects
Support hub coalitions and stakeholders (companies, regulators, community-based organizations)in project development from a community engagement perspective (written applications, webinars)
Connect with wide network of regional stakeholders to ensure engagement plans are developed and executed
Helping to craftand execute community-engaging issue-based forums that involve a multitude of internal and external stakeholders
Support development of team members and the Institute on subject matter relevant to engaging with communities and energy development
Effectively communicate activities internally at RMI
Mentor staff at associate level, developing a cohesive, enthusiastic, supportive, and high-performing team culture
Represent RMI to external partners and public audiences at conferences, meetings, and through written materials
Demonstrate organization-wide values, helping maintain a culture of impact, accountability, and entrepreneurship
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree
4+ years of experience in energy project development, community organizing, campaign management related to energy and infrastructure projects
Experience leading high-performing teams in a project-based work environment
Knowledgein clean energy transition pathways for heavy industry and climate change
Additional Qualifications
Ability to travel 10-20%

Excellent interpersonal skills, writing and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
A graduate degree in environmental science, law or policy, economics, engineering
Connections across the energy development advocacy and academic institutions
Knowledge in economic development factors for energy development
Experience managing complex and diverse stakeholder groups, paired with the ability to lead and navigate challenging conversations, particularly across multiple community groups.
Ability to manage and understand the technical aspects of clean hydrogen development
