What You Will Do Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.
Software Architecture and Code Development
Use C, C++, and Python to develop autonomous instrumentation control programs for balloon-borne instrumentation, including mechanisms, power switching, and camera system control
Develop software enabling RF communication protocols between balloon platforms and ground stations
Software Operations and Troubleshooting During Field Deployments
Support software troubleshooting during compatibility testing efforts with external partners
Support software operational control efforts during remote field site integration efforts leading up to the launch
Support engineering diagnostic software codes running during balloon campaigns when instruments are at float altitudes
Who We'd Love To Join Our Team Successful candidates will ensure their application materials speak to the following criteria:
Education and Experience REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in science or engineering and at least 10 years of instrumentation-based coding experience in C++; or a Master's degree in science or engineering and at least eight years of instrumentation-based coding experience in C++; or an equivalent combination of education and experie
Experience in developing software for implementing telemetry communication protocols
Experience in camera control software
Experience in NASA-supported stratospheric ballooning missions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities REQUIRED:
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a team of scientists and engineers and an advanced capability to conduct engineering instrumentation design independently as necessary.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively with PIs, scientific staff, and fellow engineers, and proven ability in writing scientific instrumentation proposals and in successfully publishing engineering results
