Boston Public Schools STIPEND OPPORTUNITY: BPS Recruitment & Cultivation Fellow (SY24-25) in Boston, Massachusetts

Context The Recruitment Team of the Office of Human Capital within Boston Public Schools is committed to recruiting, hiring, developing, and retaining a racially, ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse group of highly effective and culturally proficient teachers and staff members every year. We continue to focus our efforts on three key “levers” for human capital reform: 1) Recruit & Cultivate, 2) Hire Early, and 3) Develop and Retain. These levers remain at the center of our strategy for accelerating student learning. Position Overview The BPS Recruitment Team is seeking skilled and dedicated district educators to serve as ambassadors of BPS Recruitment, promoting the district in an inspiring and realistic way, and emphasizing the district's commitment to diversity. With our city and schools growing more diverse and vibrant, it is our top priority to ensure that we have the best educators in every classroom for our students. We are also committed to increasing the diversity among our educators, as research shows that a diverse workforce is linked directly to closing the achievement gap of students. A crucial part of this work is identifying and cultivating potential diverse future educators earlier than ever. BPS Recruitment Fellows will participate in district-wide recruitment and cultivation events such as Early Hiring Pool pre-screening for both Academic and Academic Support pools, teacher career fairs, interview/ demo lesson workshops, networking and informational events, webinars, panels, one on one or small group workshops in order to build community and cultivate future educators for Boston Public Schools. Responsibilities - All Fellows Obtain Training: October 2024 Learn the BPS pre-screening protocols for identifying priority candidates Learn the BPS Hiring Supports resume, cover letter, interview and demo lesson format in order to coach candidates Learn to use TalentEd (BPS’ talent management system) in order to document pre-screening and hiring supports Learn to serve as an Ambassador of BPS Recruitment, as a liaison between candidates and the district, and as a mentor to potential BPS educators; become acquainted with RCD supports and resources to share with candidates Build and maintain the Early Hiring Pools for Teachers and Paraprofessions (EHP): October 2024 to February 2025 Evaluate resumes and cover letters of Early Hiring Pool applicants Conduct pre-screening zoom interviews of potential candidates Input documentation into the TalentEd system and update Recruitment trackers with timely and accurate data Ensure best efforts to schedule an opportunity for screening Identify high potential candidates, (focus on candidates that reflect the racial, cultural, linguistic diversity of the students we serve) and provide supplementary mentoring as needed Gather feedback on the hiring support services include: distribution, collection, of feedback from candidates and school leaders regarding recruitment processes and events (exit surveys) Support implementation of recruitment & cultivation events: October 2024 to June 2025 Provide assistance to BPS Recruitment Team with virtual office hours and Resume, Cover letter, Interview and Elevator Pitches coaching during Monday Info Sessions 5:30PM - 7:00PM Required attendance at the following events - Demo Day 1 & 2, School Leader Panel, Diversity Fair 1 & 2, and workshops Host monthly informational sessions via Zoom about BPS for cultivated candidates, partners/ schools, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic / Latinx serving institutions highlighting the many pathways to becoming a teacher in the district. Serve as an Ambassador of BPS Recruitment, as a liaison between candidates and the district, and as a mentor to potential BPS educators; Speak to personal experiences teaching or working in BPS; share helpful resources with candidates Networking/Cultivating: October 2024 to June 2025 Communications/Social media: post our videos, information about events and supports to provide consistent communication across all platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Workplace, LinkedIn; articles pertinent to our work, highlight our work, events; Share information via personal and professional networks Support partnership development through community-based cultivation events across the greater Boston area to build a network of potential future educators for BPS Reach out to assigned candidates identified by the Recruitment Team via email, zoom and phone Optional: contribute to newsletter, quarterly; update Constant Contact per schedule we provide; Create flyers for social media pages. Administration: October 2024 to June 2025 Track your time and activities - Document the status of all work and hours worked Respond to/ follow up on inquiries through the Recruitment email as requested by Manager of Recruitment To be considered for this opportunity, you must be able to commit to attending the following Mandatory commitments: Attend training through the month of October 2023 (Wednesday nights) Scheduled Fellows weekly check in’s (7 dates TBD) 6:00-7:00 pm Attend both Demonstration Days, (Feb and April TBD), 8:00 am-1:00 pm Attend the Annual Diversity Fair (March TBD), 5:30-8:00pm Attend Mid Year check in, TBD, 5:30-7:00 pm Attend End of Year meeting TBD 5:30-7:00 pm Other Assigned Recruitment Events totaling 24+/- hours Timeline Interviews via Zoom: TBD Final decisions communicated: TBD Mandatory orientation (virtual) : Begins October TBD 5:30-7:00pm. Hours/Compensation $4,000 flat stipend Payment schedule = $2000 in February, and $2000 in June Approximately 80 EHP screenings, lasting 45 minutes each, from November through March (pool will close in February) Monday Night Virtual Info Sessions 5:30PM - 7:30PM between Oct 2023 - Jan 2024 Sharpen Your Skills workshop event (in person): Jan TBD, plus prep Supporting 2 Demo Days (virtual): Feb TBD and Apr TBD, 4.5 hours each Diversity Fairs (in person & virtual), plus prep Virtual Black & Diaspora Fair, plus prep Virtual Hispanic / Latinx Recruitment Fair, plus prep Virtual AAPI Recruitment Fair, plus prep Virtual Multilingual Fair, plus prep Virtual Special Education Fair, plus prep Attend RF Trainings and team meetings: 1.5 hour Initial Orientation, TBD 1.5 hour TalentEd, resume/ interviewing, TBD 1 hour Demo Day Overview, January TBD, 2025 ½ to 1 ½ hour monthly check-in’s: December 2024 to May 2025 (6.5 hours) December TBD, 2024 (.5hr) check-in January TBD, 2025 (Mid Year Check in) (1.5hr) ½ hr Check-in : EHP (Teacher & Para) status, goals 1 hr Demo Day Overview Feb TBD, 2025 (.5) March TBD, 2025 (.5) April TBD, 2025 (.5) May TBD, 2025 (.5) June TBD, 2025 (End of the Year event) (2.5hr) June meeting (End of year impact) Average of 1-5 hours/ week, divided between attending and planning trainings/ meetings, workshops, info sessions, one on one hiring support, and recruitment & cultivation events or activities (approx. 60-90 hours total) *Note: Typically recruitment events are held after school, evenings, and some weekend morning hours and Recruitment & Cultivation Fellows typically attend each event (which last 1-4 hours each). Due to the current circumstances, many of these events may instead be held virtually, at shorter intervals, and more frequently. Also, the distribution or nature of work may fluctuate or change throughout the school year if unforeseen changes arise. We ask Fellows and Leads to allow for some flexibility in light of these circumstances.
