Job Summary: We are seeking a Ph.D. level Staff Scientist to manage our Biosafety Level 3 (BLSL3) facility located in the Center for Virology and Vaccine Research once it is commissioned. As the BSL3 Facility Manager, you will oversee the operations and maintenance of the BSL3 lab and will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of the facility, complying with all relevant biosafety regulations and guidelines. Primary Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day operations of the BSL3 facility, including equipment maintenance, safety protocols, training new staff and facility access.

• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the facility, ensuring adherence to biosafety regulations and guidelines.

• Collaborate with research teams to coordinate facility usage, scheduling, and maintenance.

• Monitor and maintain the proper functioning of BSL3 equipment, including biosafety cabinets, autoclaves, and environmental monitoring systems.

• Oversee the training and certification of personnel working in the BSL3 facility, ensuring proper safety protocols are followed.

• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards or compliance issues.

• Manage inventory of supplies and reagents specific to the BSL3 environment, ensuring availability and proper storage.

• Stay current with developments in biosafety regulations and best practices and implement necessary updates to protocols and procedures.

• Act as the point of contact for external inspections and audits related to the BSL3 facility.

• Collaborate with procurement to acquire necessary equipment and supplies, considering both operational needs and budget constraints.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in virology, microbiology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field required.

• Extensive experience working in a BSL3 laboratory environment, including a solid understanding of biosafety protocols and practices.

• Prior experience in a managerial or supervisory role within a BSL3 facility.

• Knowledge of relevant regulations and guidelines, such as CDC's Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) and NIH Guidelines.

• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage personnel and collaborate with research teams.

• Detail-oriented mindset with excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.

• Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping related to facility operations, safety procedures, and audits.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  3. Has full responsibility for planning, monitoring and managing department budget.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Doctoral degree required.

  2. 0-1 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required

  3. Requires Staff Ph.D. and/or Medical Degree

  4. 10 years related work experience required

  5. Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.

  5. Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
