Job Summary

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute (HPHCI) is currently seeking a highly motivated, action-oriented, and resourceful Project Director to join the Division of Therapeutics Research and Infectious Disease Epidemiology (TIDE). TIDE sits within the Department of Population Medicine (www.populationmedicine.org), leading large, complex, multi-institutional research initiatives that support major national public health activities. Our mission is to improve health care delivery and population health through research and education, in partnership with health plans, delivery systems, and public health agencies. The Project Director reports into TIDE’s Project Management Office (PMO), a Center of Excellence, that offers robust career pathing, training, support, and mentorship. They will provide direction of complex, multi-site projects, in several of TIDE’s research portfolios, ensuring each project’s overall integrity, coherence, and ultimate success. This position requires excellent communication skills for close collaboration with internal and external investigators, funders, and project managers and is an ideal match for a candidate with pharmaceutical or CRO industry experience.

Key Responsibilities/Duties – what you will be doing

  • Responsible for all phases of the project management lifecycle and the preparation of proposals and grants, including scopes of work, and operating budgets. Ensures compliance with TIDE PMO standards and methodologies.

  • Facilitates project strategic planning and manages related initiatives to maximize project success and team satisfaction.

  • Acts as primary contact for project activities, leading review sessions with funders and stakeholders to discuss cost, schedule, quality, and technical performance. Develops and maintains a highly collaborative working relationship with various stakeholders and partners and represents their projects externally. Facilitates resolution of issues and/or inter-dependencies that threaten the delivery dates or outcomes of projects, including how they relate to other parallel efforts.

  • Actively works with TIDE Leadership to ensure efficient allocation of common resources and skills within their projects. Ensures each project team has the necessary information and documentation to support timely, accurate status reporting and communications to key stakeholders, funders, and partners. Ensures all project documentation and repositories are maintained up to date and reflect current statuses.

Qualifications – what you need to perform the job

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Bachelor's degree required; a master’s degree in public health or related field is strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10 years of relevant experience managing medium to large, complex, multi-site projects and cross-functional initiatives, using standard project management methodologies in a pharmaceutical, CRO, health care, or academic environment.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience applying project management principles to all phases of the project cycle and overseeing complex budgets.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills; able to represent project teams externally. Able to collaborate effectively and regularly with senior staff of the organization and external funders/stakeholders. Advanced experience managing relationships with external partners, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Able to lead and motivate teams effectively and through influence. Superior problem solving and change management skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, Power Point, Word, Visio, and other desktop tools or project management software.

  • Motivated and flexible, able to work independently and prioritize work, operating under tight deadlines and limited supervision.
