Position Summary: We are seeking a dynamic, passionate, and creative K-6 Vocal Music / 5-6th Grade Band Teacher to join our dedicated team and inspire a love of music in all students.. This role offers the unique opportunity to nurture the musical talents of young learners while fostering a lifelong love of music. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator with the ability to lead both general music classes and beginner/intermediate band programs, creating a positive and inclusive environment where students thrive and develop their musical potential.


Essential Functions:

  • Plan, Teach, and Inspire: Develop and implement engaging music lessons for students in grades K-6 that promote musical understanding, creativity, and expression. Lead classes that include a mix of vocal music, instrumental techniques, and music theory, ensuring that instruction is aligned with the General Music Standards from the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards.

  • Vocal Music Program Leadership: Teach and organize vocal music classes for grades K-6, providing engaging instruction in vocal techniques, music literacy, and performance. Guide students in developing basic and intermediate singing skills, understanding musical concepts, and participating in group singing and ensemble performances.

  • Band Program Leadership: Teach and organize a beginner band, providing instruction on various instruments, including but not limited to brass, woodwinds, percussion, and strings. Guide students in developing basic and intermediate instrumental skills, music reading, and ensemble playing.

  • Foster Musical Growth: Create a welcoming and supportive classroom environment that encourages exploration, practice, and collaboration. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying musical abilities and backgrounds.

  • Performance Preparation: Coordinate and prepare students for school-wide performances, including concerts, talent shows, and other musical events. Promote teamwork and a sense of accomplishment through group performances.

  • Assess and Support Student Progress: Regularly assess students progress in both individual and group settings. Provide constructive feedback and offer support to students struggling with specific musical concepts.

  • Collaborate with School Community: Work closely with colleagues, parents, and school leadership to integrate music education across the curriculum. Participate in school activities, meetings, and professional development to contribute to the overall success of the school.

  • Maintain Instrument Inventory: Manage classroom instruments and supplies, ensuring that equipment is properly maintained and available for student use.

  • Encourage Lifelong Musical Engagement: Inspire students to develop a lifelong appreciation for music, offering opportunities for them to explore music outside the classroom through extracurricular activities or community events.

  • Other Duties as Assigned


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Music Education or related field (required).

  • Valid state certification in Music Education (K-12) or eligibility for certification (required).

  • Experience teaching music at the elementary level (preferred).

  • Proficiency in teaching a variety of instruments, including both wind and percussion instruments (preferred).

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work effectivel with diverse groups of students and create a positive learning environment.

  • Passion for music and the ability to inspire that passion in others.

  • Collaborative spirit and a commitment to continuous professional growth.
