Food Scientist (m/w/d)
The IFF Pharma Solutions business produces and sells high-performance cellulose derivatives, alginates and related polymers used for formulations across a broad variety of applications in the Pharmaceuticals, Food, and Industrial Specialties and Personal Care markets.
This is an exciting position for a Food Scientist to join a very dynamic and experienced applications and research team. A key responsibility is to support our food customers in their research and development activities and promote our food ingredients. This includes solving our customers formulation and processing challenges and enabling them to succeed. In addition to that the Scientist will drive our research programs tailored to advance the product line offerings within the Food area.
As a Food Scientist, the selected candidate will be responsible for leading a lab with food technologists within the Bomlitz Innovation Center.
You will strengthen our Global application technology team.
Your tasks will include:
People Leadership of a small, dedicated team of technologists
Work across all regions in collaboration with the sales / field technical support team to support an existing customer portfolio and territory.
Interacts with customers to help solve technical challenges and follows up with internal stakeholders to drive for value-adding solutions. Engages with customers and business partners to understand unmet market needs, conceptualizes these, and translates them into research plans or project proposals.
Foster close collaborations internally with multiple functions in Technical Service, R&D, Production, Supply Chain and Quality/Regulatory to provide answers to customers on product and applications related enquiries.
Develop in-depth understanding of customer needs, develop new growth opportunities and maintain an opportunity pipeline.
Design, manage and execute application and research projects in close collaboration with marketing and commercial teams.
Develop in-depth understanding of relationships between food ingredient structure, food formulation and performance.
Support regional marketing activities: product launches, campaigns, trade shows.
Document work, technical understanding and scientific knowledge in reports, publications, congresses and patent applications.
About You
Qualifications/ Critical Competencies:
PhD in chemistry or food science/engineering or a master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in food R&D or technical service.
Formulation expertise across Bakery, Dairy, Beverage, Meat, Vegetarian, and Culinary Applications.
Drive to results, self-driven and work independently.
Excellent communication, both verbal and written.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work internally with regional and global teams. Learning agility to grow and develop in a dynamic environment. Excellent problem-solving skills.
Willingness to travel.
You can expect a responsible role in a versatile and technologically demanding environment with all the opportunities in an internationally active company. The position is located within the Pharma Innovation Center in Bomlitz (Germany). Due to the intensive local interaction e. g. with the laboratories, at least basic German language skills are required. The main language in business interactions is English. The position is fulltime and regular (Vollzeit und unbefristet).
The Pharma Solutions business will be taking on its next chapter of growth as a trusted partner for the pharmaceutical industry with the announcement to sell Pharma Solutions to Roquette. This move will position Pharma Solutions to expand its industry leadership through continued investment in innovation to meet the evolving needs of pharmaceutical manufacturers and developers worldwide. The sale is presently expected to close in the first half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. The Pharma Solutions business unit will remain a part of IFF until close and, at such time, it will transition to Roquette.
