What does a System Administrator, Senior, or LSO do for us?

The focus of this role is specific to Operational Technology (OT) and requires an in-depth knowledge of IT/OT blended environments. A System Administrator analyzes, installs, configures, upgrades, tests, documents, monitors and maintains software and hardware in support of business processing requirements. The supported systems may include operating systems, business applications, server hardware, security tools, monitoring tools, web servers, application servers, integration servers, and other departmental or enterprise applications or systems. They provide technical support for problems specific to our 24/7 Operations Technology environment.

In addition, a Senior System Administrator participates in the development and execution of technology strategies to support organizational activities and direction. They provide advanced-level support for systems; including troubleshooting, performance, monitoring, cost-benefit, security, and licensing analysis. They stay aware of industry trends, business requirements, and technical design methodologies to aid in the development of creative/innovative IT/OT solutions.

An LSO System Administrator also analyzes, installs, configures, upgrades, tests, documents, monitors and maintains software and hardware in support of business processing and power grid supporting Operational Technology (OT) requirements for the LSO. They demonstrate knowledge and expertise in system administration of infrastructure, power grid applications, and support systems that are required to support mission critical control environments. This includes proficiency in individual areas of expertise as well as support for a wide breadth of technology.

This position will primarily support an energy market related project. The successful candidate will support the development, testing, implementation of new integrations, perform testing and troubleshooting to ensure data integrity and accuracy, support our internal end-users with application and tool needs, and work with our application vendors and utility partners to ensure the delivery of quality solutions. Additional responsibilities may include user support for Energy Management System (EMS) and peripheral applications as well as general business on-call duties.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Installation, configuration, upgrading, testing, documenting, monitoring, and maintaining software and hardware of relevant technology platforms

Preferred:

  • Expert knowledge of programming languages including PowerShell, Python, or SQL

  • Power grid and associated mission-critical infrastructure and applications

  • FERC and NERC regulatory requirements as they relate to the system administration of power grid infrastructure

Skills in:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

System Administrator

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field

OR

  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, or a related field

Experience:

  • 2 or more years of relevant technology administration experience

Preferred:

  • 4 or more years of relevant technology administration experience

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

Preferred:

  • Certification relevant to position, ITIL Foundation Certificate, Microsoft MCSA, Redhat RHCSA

Senior System Administrator

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, CIS (Computer Information Systems), or equivalent field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, CIS (Computer Information Systems), cyber security or a related field

Experience:

  • 5 or more years of professional technology administration experience

Preferred:

  • 8 or more years' experience in a Corporate Multi-platform Technology environment

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

Preferred:

  • Certification relevant to position, ITIL Foundation Certificate, Microsoft MCSE, Redhat RHCE, Microsoft Azure Administrator, CISSP, CCNP (Network)

LSO System Administrator

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in related technology field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, CIS (Computer Information Systems), or equivalent field

Experience:

  • 7 years of professional Technology Administration experience including 3 years of experience in power grid systems

Preferred:

  • 10 years of professional Technology Administration experience including 3 years of experience in power grid systems at IPC

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
