This role has a 80% teaching responsibility (focused 4/4 course load), and 20% University service expectation. This workload offers the opportunity to significantly impact our students\' educational experiences across a range of kinesiology programs.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for delivering a dynamic mix of lower and upper-level undergraduate courses within the K-12 Physical Education and Health degree, and our Kinesiology degree, which has 5 tracks (https://www.boisestate.edu/kinesiology/programs/). There are possibly additional responsibilities for teaching graduate-level courses in our CAATE Accredited Master of Athletic Training program. Responsibilities include creating a vibrant, interactive learning environment for both in-person and online classes, where enthusiasm for physical education, kinesiology, and sports science becomes contagious.

The position also requires engagement in service activities within the department, college, and university, contributing to the governance and forward movement of the institution. The role offers non-tenure track progression with opportunities for promotion based on performance and contributions to the department. Engagement in research is not a responsibility of this position although candidates with a desire to conduct research, especially as it relates to effective teaching, may have this opportunity.

Multidisciplinary teaching responsibilities:

The teaching responsibilities for this position will depend on the background of the candidate. Based on the workload, this position is expected to teach some of the following courses: K-12 PE & Health degree: KINES 251: Introduction to Physical Education, KINES 305: Adapted Physical Education, KINES 451: Secondary Physical Education Methods, Activity specific courses (KINES 103, KINES 115, and KINES 116), and supervising KINES 460/461: Student Teaching.

Other courses may include: KINES 200: Intro to Kinesiology, KINES 430: Physical Activity and Special Populations, KINES 362: Sport Coaching Methods, and graduate level Athletic Training courses.

The Department of Kinesiology (https://www.boisestate.edu/kinesiology/) employs 19 full-time faculty, a team of dedicated adjunct faculty, and three professional staff members. Currently, the department services over 900 undergraduate and graduate students through undergraduate programs in Kinesiology and K-12 Physical Education and Health, graduate programs in Athletic Leadership (MAL), Athletic Training (MAT), Kinesiology (MK and MS-non thesis and thesis tracks).

Minimum qualifications:

The entry level rank for this position includes individuals who hold a terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in a kinesiology-related field or a Master\'s degree and substantial teaching experience. A candidate with a Master\'s degree will be considered with a minimum of eight years of teaching experience at the K-12 and/or collegiate level.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Successful teaching at the college or university level
  • Ability to teach in these areas related to Kinesiology: Physical Education, Health Education and/or physical activity for special populations.
  • If certified as an athletic trainer, instructor for CAATE accredited Athletic Training courses
