The air terminal custodial team:

  • Cleans public areas throughout the airport terminal and parking garage while maintaining awareness of airport security issues and responding as required.

  • Works with the general public and assists passengers by answering questions or providing information.

  • Requires patience with routines and busy travelers.

  • This position works under immediate/direct supervision.

Day shift $16.15/hour + full benefits

Swing shift $16.96/hour + full benefits

Night shift $17.36/hour + full benefits

Essential Functions

Performs routine or repetitive tasks with specific instructions and set procedures. Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.

Cleans and stocks restrooms. Vacuums waiting areas, stairwells, escalator grids, elevator tracks and walkways. Cleans carpets by extraction and carpet spotting. Picks up trash and empties trash receptacles. Wipes tables and chairs. Spot cleans windows, stainless columns and trim. Mops and sweeps hard surface floors and performs scrub and wax recoating. Cleans up spills and tenant lease spaces. Interacts with the public and provides information or directs them to appropriate personnel. Reports and follows up on safety issues identified during shift inspections.

Shovels snow. Keeps hard surface floors dry during wet conditions to avoid safety concerns for passengers and tenants.

Maintains awareness of airport security. Watches for and responds to unattended baggage or package items, security door alarms, possible security breaches, odd or suspicious behavior from passengers, and dangerous or prohibited items found in trash, restrooms and waiting areas. Assists operations and responds to emergencies.

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge of:

  • maintaining cleaning equipment and products;

  • general cleaning procedures;

  • airport security protocol;

  • mixing rules and regulations of cleaning chemicals and solutions;

  • safety and cleaning products and equipment; and

  • airfield driving protocol.

Ability to:

  • work on ladders and scaffolds up to 20 feet high;

  • remove and lift large amounts of trash and other waste;

  • operate power tools and equipment such as floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, side-by-side buffers and lifts;

  • drive airport vehicles at night;

  • identify safety and security hazards;

  • communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and

  • perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • 2 years of experience working in the custodial field and

  • working knowledge of common custodial practices and cleaning products and supplies.

  • Completed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour General Industry Training course.

Licensing And Other Requirements

  • Complete Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Certifications for 100 & 700 Courses within six months of being hired.

  • Valid state-issued driver's license.

  • Ability to complete airport driver training/certification.

Applicants must be able to pass:

City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Driving Record Check

Transportation Security Administration background check (SIDA)

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds, frequently pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision and distance vision. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical hazards and work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. Works around the general public and traffic, snow and ice during winter months.

This position works: morning, swing and/or graveyard shifts.
