Amazon Data Center Facility Operations Manager in Boardman, Oregon

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. Key job responsibilities

  • Foster cross-functional collaboration by working closely with HR, finance, procurement, and other teams to ensure smooth operations, facility functioning, and resource management, while promoting diversity and inclusion within the organization.

  • Develop and manage budgets, allocating resources efficiently, controlling costs, and optimizing spending while meeting operational, facility, and regulatory requirements, with a focus on creating an inclusive and diverse environment.

  • Monitor and assess performance metrics related to operational efficiency, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction to ensure goals and objectives are met. Identify opportunities for improvement and implement best practices for continuous improvement.

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of staff members involved in operations, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and career development, emphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of team management.

  • Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure, ensuring high-quality work without impacting customers. Coordinate with third-party vendors, ensuring adherence to contracted service level agreements (SLAs), while promoting supplier diversity and inclusive business practices.

  • Develop plans, procedures, and protocols for emergency preparedness, business continuity, and handling crises, and other emergencies, with a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals, including underrepresented groups.

  • Routinely operate as the after-hours on-call Operational Manager for the data centers in the region, managing issue investigation, mitigation, and recovery in a diverse and inclusive manner. 

A day in the life

As the Operations Manager, your role demonstrates a strong commitment to prioritizing the development and well-being of team members, as well as fostering diversity and inclusion. You will oversee all facets of the data center's critical infrastructure with a focus on continuous availability and optimal performance, while upholding high-quality standards and minimizing any impact on internal and external customers. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in process optimization, staff management, setting performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives, all while ensuring a supportive and inclusive work environment.

  • Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians: Prioritize and assign tasks, coach and create documentation, guide and train staff on best practices.

  • Effectively and efficiently manage operations budget: Monitor and control expenditures, ensure optimal resource allocation.

  • Engage in improvement projects: Drive projects from conception to completion, collaborate with support teams.

  • Coordinate with third-party vendors: Ensure adherence to contracted service level agreements (SLAs).

  • Communicate complex technical information: Adapt communication style for diverse stakeholders, including non-technical audiences.

  • Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls: Address urgent issues that may arise outside regular working hours.

  • Act as an escalation point for facilities-related issues: Oversee routine and emergency services, ensure safety procedures are followed.

  • Deliver operational excellence: Prioritize team development and well-being while achieving operational goals.

  • Foster a diverse and inclusive team culture: Empower team members to reach their full potential.

  • Perform physical tasks: Lift and move objects of varying weights, walk job sites in different terrains while maintaining balance and safety.

  • Promote accessible work environments: Support employees' diverse needs.

  • Work in noisy environments when required: Utilize approved personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Support multiple locations/sites: Coordinate and manage operations across different sites.

  • Provide on-site management for builders, five days a week. (No remote work)

Basic Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent diploma

  • 5+ years of experience in successfully leading diverse teams and implementing operational strategies, while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams, communicating goals and expectations, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.

  • 6+ years of experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and other basic administrative tools

  • 5+ years of experience in managing projects, including planning, execution, and resource allocation

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, using tools and software for operations management, and interpreting key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve operational performance.

  • 5+ years of experience in driving continuous improvement initiatives and implementing process improvement.

  • 5+ years of experience related to supervising and coordinating the activities of staff members involved in operations, including Hiring, Training, Scheduling, Performance management and Career development and promotion

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Operations Management or a related discipline

  • 7+ years of experience working in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation

  • An excellent understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations
