What will you do?

The Senior Strategic Consultant is a senior scientific, technical and analytics strategist, with the ability to understand client needs, both expressed and unexpressed, and translate them into integrated business solutions that solve clients' business challenges by architecting data, analytics, marketing, and technology strategies, operating models, platforms, ecosystems, and solutions.

The Senior Strategic Consultant is a subject matter expert (SME) in one or more therapeutic categories, in basic analysis approaches to more advanced statistics, data platforms, technology, machine learning or AI, and/or in a part of the industry such as from marketing, commercialization, pharmaceutical IT, clinical development, health systems, payers, insurers, or the pharmacy. A fundamental understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, commercial business processes and/or drug development process is required as is the knowledge of the data and analyses used to solve healthcare challenges.

The position is both client-facing and a support resource internally. In the external capacity, the Senior Strategic Consultant will work directly with clients in gaining an understanding of client challenges, goals, and strategies for their brands, and then interpreting those findings into appropriate business models, operating models, and capabilities to support their strategic vision.

In the internal capacity, the Senior Strategic Consultant supports sales and pre-sales activities with Principals in creation of strategies, ideas, and potential solutions. The Senior Strategic Consultant works with the Engagement Lead (EL), as well as the Analytic, Technical and Delivery teams to ensure that as the project enfolds, it remains on strategy; the EL ensures that the project remains on scope. The Senior Strategic Consultant works with the Analytics team and/or Enterprise team on methodological approaches, and reviews outputs with the Delivery team to ensure client readiness in terms of meeting outcomes and expectations as well as interpretation of findings and recommendations for next steps. The Senior Strategic Consultant is likely involved in presentations to the client during and at final delivery. The Senior Strategic Consultant may not be involved in simpler or smaller engagements.

As the Senior Strategic Consultant fills in the gaps between client expressed needs and what is required to address client requests, the Senior Strategic Consultant will seek out additional information and knowledge, when needed, from across the organization such as clinical colleagues at ICON, methodological approaches with the Analytics team, and technology assistance from the Enterprise team.

Primary Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the following:

  • Understanding client business needs and translating those needs into actions with the Principals, NADs, Analytics, Enterprise, and Delivery. This may involve identifying technology options, desk research, evidence collection, and consultation with internal experts and the SC lead.

  • Works with Principals to ensure readiness for client meetings, including pre to post sales. Principal owns client relationship and final solution architecture; Senior Strategic Consultant provides ideation, strategic support, and ensures feasibility and viability of solution presented to client.

  • Supports Delivery and Analytics and/or Enterprise with multiple large or complex client engagement/discussions. Senior Strategic Consultant owns strategy but EL owns delivery, so a strong working relationship is essential. As owner of the strategy, Senior Strategic Consultant is accountable to ensure that the engagement is delivered to the strategy, storyline, and interpretation of the findings meet the expectations agreed to with the client.

  • Assists EL in project kick off (Internal and external) to ensure methodologies and strategic approach aligns with discussions and expectations that were set by the Principal to the client

  • Has regular interactions and works with colleagues across SH and units on project related needs.

  • Works with clients on a regular basis on assigned projects, but also on a non-project-based basis to establish long term relationships with existing clients to support future growth with that client.

  • For a Data and Analysis and Marketing Associate Director, main contributor to complex methodology and study design along with overall data analysis requirements. May need to come in and support the EL when questions around methodology or overall project strategy arise from the Analytics team. Assists EL to finalize data findings and overall project 'story' for the client based upon project objectives

  • For a Technical Associate Director, main contributor for complex technical solution design to support overall business requirements. May need to come in and support the EL when questions around overall technology strategy arise.

  • May need to assist EL in inquires and resolution if complex and time is of the essence.

  • May present final deliverable to the client with the support of the Principal.

What do you have?

Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree with 10+ years of relevant work experience or

  • MPH, MHA, or other Master's degree with 5-10 years of relevant work experience

  • May have a PhD, PharmD, or other terminal degree

  • Ability to manage and prepare for different types of client presentations including pre-sale assessments, solution ideation, client workshops, post-sales methodology discussions, and final deliverable of findings and recommendations.

  • Ability to work within and negotiate aggressive deadlines and competing priorities that ensures quality deliverables

  • Collaborative and lead-by-example based style, and ability to work across functional lines to build consensus and achieve project strategy objectives

  • Can guide client discussions across a range of topics including technical, business, research, and/or methodology

    Data & Analysis Skills for Data & Analytics and Marketing Senior Strategic Consultant

  • Understanding of Symphony Health healthcare data and/or competitive datasets and analytics solutions and can, with the team, determine appropriate use of each for assigned projects

  • Ability to design novel solutions and approaches utilizing Symphony as well as other complementary data potential outside of SH

  • Expand standard Symphony offerings, create new innovative solutions, and introduce new ideas with the Principal to clients as well as internally within consulting and product teams

  • Provides guidance to other project members around approach to client requests and in collaboration with other teams

  • Create and review analytic and data requirements for complex analytical projects including the skills necessary to teach or guide others

  • Data analysis skills with the ability to identify relevant findings based upon client's objectives

  • Ability to create an effective 'story' of how the findings meet the business and analytical objectives of the engagement, craft a clear and compelling interpretation of the meaning of the output, and build recommendations for how the client can use them to further their objectives as part of final report or intermediate deliverables.
