The Virginia Tech/Montgomery Executive Airport is seeking an Operation Specialist to join our team for our rapidly growing General Aviation Airport. Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the operation specialist will perform a variety of technical, general, maintenance, and surveillance duties associated with the safe, efficient, and continuous operation and maintenance of the airport. This position involves exercising sound judgment and the ability to work independently and cooperatively. This is a 40 hour per week position with occasional call out and overtime. Starting salary is $35,000 to $42,000 subject to experience qualifications. Responsibilities:

• Essential duties will include but are not limited to the following: aircraft refueling and ground handling, facility maintenance and customer service.
• Coordinates airport operations during assigned shifts, ensuring the safety and security of the public, tenants, and airport staff.
• Maintains current knowledge of all Airport rules, regulations, and policies. Assists in establishing policies, procedures, and practices governing the operation of airport terminals, runways, roads, and grounds.
• On airfield repairs; airfield lighting; janitorial; maintenance of main terminal and grounds.
• Conducts periodic and daily inspections of runways, taxiways, fuel farm and other airport facilities.
• Assists in snow and ice control procedures.
• Issues and files Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) and other functions and reports all conditions that impact the safe operations of aircraft and ensures the safety of the flying public.
• Performs other functions as requested by the Director of Operations.
• On call for wildlife runway sweeps and after hours call-outs.
• Coordinate and testing of fuel deliveries.
• Must have excellent customer service skills when handling customers, both internal and external customers.
• Electrical and mechanical experience is highly preferable with the ability to check, lubricate, and maintain various types of electrical, mechanical equipment and vehicles, as well as troubleshoot system malfunctions and recognize problems and take quick corrective action in addressing potential hazards or existing discrepancies.

Education Requirements: (Evaluation Factors: Skills, Education, Experience, Ability)

• Preferred Education and Experience Degree in aviation, transportation, or related area (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of three (3) years work experience in the aviation sector or related field preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• This position requires skills in self-motivation, prioritization, organization, verbal communications, interpersonal relations with co-workers and the public.
• Ability to plan, organize, and set priorities.
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team.

• Reasonable care for equipment/process will prevent injury/damage
• The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
• Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, grasping, and repetitive motions.
• This employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions during all seasons.
