Purpose Of Class/Primary Function

The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide services to the public in

acquiring a drivers license, in accordance with state laws. Duties include maintaining knowledge

of current regulations, administering tests for licensing and issuing licenses, permits and

identification cards, responding to requests for information about licensure requirements,

maintaining accurate files, and reconciling received payments daily. The work is performed under

supervision of the Sheriffs Captain but leeway is granted for the exercise of independent

judgment and initiative. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office

environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (will vary by assignment)

Examines required documents for authenticity prior to testing or issuing of any new Idaho licenses;

Evaluate each patron for possible physical or mental problems that may affect their ability to operate a

motor vehicle; if necessary, request a medical, skills or visual test to be conducted by a professional;

Gives written and visual acuity tests to determine applicant\'s eligibility for driver\'s license;

Scores written and visual acuity tests and issues and collects fees for instruction permits;

Issue Idaho drivers licenses, State identification cards, driver training permits, commercial training

permits, concealed weapon permits, sex offender registration and County identification cards;

Instruct the public on how to obtain proper documentation by assisting them with addresses, and phone

numbers, etc. both in and out of Idaho;

Respond to questions about requirements and testing for drivers licenses, motorcycle licenses and

CDL licensing;

Provide forms and other information for suspended drivers to assist in reinstating their license prior to

making an application for a new Idaho license;

Work with school officials to assist with driver training programs, provide needed information and

meet with students and parents for enrollment;

Collects fees and issues licenses; balances cash drawer and reconciles receipts daily;

Assists detectives in retrieving photo images;

Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety

practices.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Assists Sheriffs Civil and Administrative offices as requested;

Performs other related duties as required.

Competency Requirements

Knowledge of:

Regulations and requirements pertaining to State and federal drivers licensing and training

permits, sex offender registration, concealed weapon permits;

State and County code requirements for licensing and identification cards;

Fraudulent document identification;

Modern office equipment and procedures;

Operation of a personal computer and job-related software.

Ability to:

Interpret and apply regulations to applications for licenses and permits;

Administer tests for licenses;

Review and verify information presented on official applications; identify potential

fraudulent data and respond appropriately;

Provide relevant and accurate answers to questions from members of the public and County

staff;

Establish and maintain accurate records and files, both computerized and hardcopy;
