Why this job matters

This role is to calls on a hybrid of skills: mainly technical delivery manager, sometimes programme manager, ideally agile product owner. The role is to deliver complex Design & Test projects, physical infrastructure and virtual environments, embracing and applying agile and other applicable project management methodologies. You will need to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholders while working in an agile way. The TDM needs to exploit abstraction and reuse for cohesion and synergies as well as mange costs, quality & timescales, to release the biggest benefits. The TDM needs to have a holistic view of each project’s deliverables, agile-squads, stakeholders & financials.

In Networks, the Global Rech team has about 140 people who are responsible to Design, Test and Platform Manage BT’s external customer serving Networks a well as BT internal support Networks.

In the Global rech team, the Delivery team is responsible to deliver all ageed projects within time, cost and quality as well as facilitating the intake of new work, prioritisation of work where needed and managing our overall cost base.

This is collaborative and transformational work, and the team is driving new behaviours and cultures for a network of the future.

This is a exciting area with many challenges, as the technology and tools are ever changing. The candidate needs to be pro-active, flexible, result driven, has a positive attitude, able to communicate in multiple styles subject to audiance, and will be given peer & line support, coaching and opportunities to learn.

What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities

The purpose of the role is to deliver, an the roleholder may deliver part of a larger delivery.

Specifically this role is accountable for:

  • Owns and delivers change from design through to live implementation and/or withdrawal.

  • Designs and drives improved working process for efficient live deployment.

  • Owns the network delivery of portfolio/release from the concept to market (agile)

  • Deliver requirements by ensuring production of a robust, achievable and maintainable design and delivery plans.

  • Owns decom and closure of legacy networks. Manages delivery change control at work stream / Network delivery level and advice/decide on acceptance or rejection of changes to an agreed scope.

  • Ensuring the scope of delivery is understood, including OSS where necessary, that the network solution meets the business need and that plans are comprehensive and are achieved.

  • Ensuring that all impacted teams understand, engage and commit to deliver plans.

  • Identifing pre requisites to network deliveries and ensure that they are delivered

  • Ensuring that platforms/components can commit to delivery commitments

  • Meeting committed finance figures for the network deliveries

  • Identifing when deliveries are at risk and take corrective action to resolve and risk management for network deliveries

Skills required for the job

  • Very strong communications skills both oral and written, able to develop and maintain strong relationships both in and external BT, both horizontal and vertical to manage all stakeholders in where needed tailored updates.

  • Supporting senior managers and directors in Technology and the CFUs on overall change and adoption of best practice.

  • Ability to work with stakeholders, designers and platforms to ensure the proposed solution is affordable, deliverable, maintainable and delivers the required business outcomes

  • Project management skills to deliver business benefit in a timely way by focusing on must do capability and delivering effective end to end solutions

  • Management / delivery change control.

  • Risk, Opportunity and Issue management

  • Looks at ways of innovating to exceed Time, Cost and Quality measures / sharing best practice

  • Significant experience working in a software/network team and able to demonstrate that they have good understanding of (and real practical experience of) working in an Agile development

  • Experienced in technology delivery of large scale projects and Agile delivery practices.

  • Leadership skills to lead and motivate the team to deliver excellent results and maintain #1Networks.

  • Experience in defining & solving problems that arise from the interaction of multiple components and social & geograffic diverse teams that are usually complex and unknown. The most complex problem may be typically related to the overall network platform and/or capability solution.

  • Self starter

Experience you would be expected to have

  • Expertise in complex and intricate network design delivery and authority.

  • decision-making, problem-solving, joint-planning – all informed by Customer Experience and cost/timequality trade-offs

  • Stakeholder management - team-working accross networks, CFUs, other Technology teams (operations, OSS)or Vendors

  • track-record of leading location and cultural diverse matrix/task teams through change and develop a challenging and supportive team culture.

  • Risk Management – active management through applying appropriate risk management strategies for both delivery and business risks

  • Proven track record of delivery of multiple technically challenging network service solutions into in life

  • Understanding and experience of managing budgets and how to ensure supporting teams are funded within Technology.

  • Preferred: Agile Methodologies experience & tribes
