The Software Engineering Manager is a key leader who independently executes advanced activities to deliver the SAP SuccessFactors engineering strategy and roadmap that underpins BT’s HR strategy primarily through cross functional business partnering whilst leading of a team of engineering professionals that pursues outstanding colleague experience thru product and solution innovation, as well as engineering excellence.

This role has the responsibility for developing SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, Time Off, Compensation and Variable Pay modules for a user base of c.90k colleagues in over 44 countries, aligned to BT’s strategic vision. The successful candidate will work closely with other Software Engineering Managers and engineering professionals across the full suite of SAP SuccessFactors modules using Agile delivery methodologies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Delivers the engineering strategy in ensuring the engineering organisation’s ability to deliver high quality on time and on budget and implementing means of bringing measurability

  • as well as predictability to the engineering organisation’s capabilities

  • Executes complex technical decisions, technology choices and architecture for a wide range of high-performance products, capabilities, and platforms,

  • effectively balancing short-term impact with long-term transformation

  • Resolves complex and strategic issues using advanced technical knowledge, across wider industry and/or specific sectors, and develops bespoke or leading edge,

  • technically complex solutions (e.g., relating to new, un-tested technology and/or large-scale impact of products)

  • Executes and contributes to the development of the ambitious and compelling technical roadmap to meet the needs of the business, engineering team, and partner teams.

  • Executes engineering and operational excellence initiatives, implementing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement

  • Drives an engineering culture that fosters innovation and creativity while delivering high quality products with predictability and reliability

  • Writes, tests and reviews code, refining and rewriting as necessary independently and communicates to engineering professionals and colleagues involved in the project

  • Solves complex and escalated aspects of a project, performing coding, debugging, testing and troubleshooting when necessary

  • Plays a positive contributor role in the software engineering organisation, implementing the technical vision and the pursuit of innovations regarding new technologies,

  • platforms and applications

  • Evaluates, implements and maintains high-quality tools and complex automation processes to support continuous delivery and developer productivity

  • Implements new architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale enterprise systems

  • Researches, designs and writes new software and performs deep dive data analysis, to identify issues and implement ways to improve working processes

  • within the area of software engineering responsibility, such as avoiding and reducing technical debt

  • Mentors other software engineers, helping to improve the team’s abilities by acting as a technical resource

  • Champions, continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in software engineering

Skills and Experience

Essential Skills/Experience :

  • Understanding of the HR function within a global corporate organisation including local HR legislation impacts on systems and processes

  • Experience of working e2e across a service delivery value chain

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills

  • Clear thinker with vision, passion, and energy

  • Strong relationship building skills & strong communications skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation to both technical

  • and business audiences

  • Experience identifying problems and solving them to continually improve the colleague experience

  • Experience of running SuccessFactors: EC, EP, TO, COMP, VP, RBP Modules processes (end to end life cycle)

  • working in a large-scale global organisation, with complex matrix team working and diverse stakeholders

  • Experience of leading and developing team members

  • Experience implementing and optimising Agile Processes

  • Expertise in cost optimization and implementing cost-effective solutions

  • Expertise in collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams of business analysts, subject matter experts, and Architects

  • In-depth knowledge of the HR SaaS solution -SuccessFactors EC, EP, TO, COMP, VP, RBP Modules

  • Excellent documentation and written communication skills (workbook updates, creating support tickets, etc.)

  • Experience in requirements gathering and driving true SaaS adoption

  • Understanding of basic XML concepts, system development and testing

  • Understanding of GUI; radio button, pick lists, and other configuration items

  • Working knowledge of tools used in a run team environment e.g. ticketing tools, testing

Nice to have skills/Experience :

  • Previous working experience as a Product Owner for the HR SAAS Solution for SAP SuccessFactors EC, EP, TO, COMP, VP, RBP Modules

  • Vendor accreditation with EC, EP, TO, COMP, VP, RBP Modules
