YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT’S INVOLVED?

In this role you will undertake the structural engineering design for discrete packages of work including the production of reports, calculation packages and specifications

Supervise technicians in the production of 3D models and drawings that clearly communicate the structural engineering solutions

Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to produce coordinated design solutions

Communicate your design solutions verbally and through sketching, drawing, writing and presentations

Visit site to carry out inspections during the construction phase, and to assess existing structures

YOUR TEAM

Our growing Structures Midlands team of over 20 people is based in central Birmingham. We work on a wide variety of public and private sector client projects across the midlands region ranging from inspections of existing structures to the design of significant development projects. We have live projects in the healthcare, commercial, education, retail and rail sectors progressing from inception through to completion on site.

Our Birmingham office is a multidisciplinary office providing the opportunity to meet with and work directly with other disciplines within WSP. The Birmingham office is within walking distance of the train station and located within the vibrant bar and café scene of The Mailbox.

In your new role you will be reporting directly to the lead structural engineer for the projects that you are involved with. You will have the opportunity to engage with the projects multidisciplinary design teams including external consultants and contribute to the overall success of the projects you are involved with.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • An engineering degree and are progressing towards Chartered status (MIStructE / MICE)

  • A working knowledge of structural engineering principles and the application of Eurocodes

  • A developing understanding of the appropriate use of analytical techniques and design software

  • An interest in low carbon design and the assessment of embodied carbon in your design solutions

  • A willingness to take responsibility for your designs, be proactive and support less experienced members of the team
