Why BT Group?

We’ve always been an organisation with purpose; we connect for good. Our roots go back to pioneering the world’s first telecommunications company. At our core, we’re a technology company with research and innovation in our DNA, committed to being personal, simple, and brilliant for our customers - values we uphold every day. We strive to create an inclusive working environment where everyone can succeed, regardless of background.

Over the past 180 years, BT has grown into a strong, successful brand, capable of achieving great things. From supporting emergency services, hospitals, and banks, to keeping economies online, safe, and secure, we deliver large-scale innovative technology infrastructure like the creation of BT Sport.

In today’s fast-changing, always-on digital world, our purpose remains steadfast. However, the market conditions, regulation, and competition we face are tougher than ever. If you have the drive, optimism, and resilience to help propel us forward, we offer unparalleled personal development, numerous opportunities to learn and experience new things, and the chance to pursue various careers. If this aligns with your aspirations, we’d love you to be part of our future.

Why this job matters

Solutions Architects are responsible for designing the overall technical solution for a given business problem – in this case, for the development and maintenance of our Business Networking products (Ethernet, Optical, and Mobile Backhaul). This role encompasses software (OSS), network infrastructure (in collaboration with Network Architects), and organisation design. A Solution Architect needs to understand the OSS and network, as well as the products and their routes to market. Exceptional solution design will deliver an outstanding customer and colleague experience, minimise cost and time to deliver, and ensure longevity.

This role offers the opportunity to work extensively across BT with multiple stakeholders in Business, Networks, and Openreach. The Senior Solution Architect Manager oversees a large team of permanent and subcontracted solution designers based in the UK and India.

What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities

  • Drive the delivery of Solution Architecture and Designs for the Business Connectivity (Ethernet & Optical) Portfolio, leading and coaching a team of Specialist Solution Designers and Senior Solution Designers:

  • Mentor, coach, and manage a team of Solution Architects to develop current and future team capabilities, ensure career success and performance, and leverage the team’s skills in achieving business objectives.

  • Provide technical direction.

  • Foster a team culture that enhances the Solution Architect team’s knowledge, methodologies, and ways of working, including the use of Agile methodology.

  • Ensure the successful delivery of Ethernet & Optical architecture and solution designs that support the Business Connectivity strategy in alignment with Enterprise Architecture roadmaps and guardrails.

  • Oversee the development of robust recommendations, proposals, and scope of work documents (e.g., feasibility studies), including estimated solution costs, timescales, and phasing proposals.

  • Lead the implementation of transformation and continuous improvement opportunities to enhance the team’s solution architecture methodologies and culture, such as the introduction of DevOps and Agile Delivery.

  • Ensure solutions provide excellent customer and colleague experiences.

  • Own outcomes, making decisions that benefit the broader organisation.

  • Deliver for the customer, executing brilliantly on clear priorities that add value to our customers and the wider business.

  • Demonstrate strong commercial focus, bringing an external perspective to decision-making.

  • Cultivate a growth mindset, experimenting and identifying opportunities for growth, both personally and for the wider organisation.

  • Consistently delivering projects on time and within budget.

  • Leading teams through significant change and fostering an innovative, challenging, and supportive team culture.

A FEW POINTS TO NOTE:

Although these roles are listed as full-time, if you’re a job share partnership, work reduced hours, or any other way of working flexibly, please still get in touch.

DON'T MEET EVERY SINGLE REQUIREMENT?

Studies have shown that women and people who are disabled, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse or from ethnic minority backgrounds are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification and criteria. We're committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace where everyone can be their best, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every requirement on the Job Description, please apply anyway - you may just be the right candidate for this or other roles in our wider team.
