Full time, 3 days a week together in either one of our Bristol, Birmingham or Manchester Digital Hubs (flexible 2 days remote wherever).

This role will sit within BT Business and will be part of the digital transformation of online services that help and support our business customers of all sizes and provide seamless online journeys to help them get to where they need to be.

The immediate assignment:

The Design Operations Manager leads the deployment of frameworks, partnerships, technologies, resources and best in practice methods to empower the design team’s capabilities and competencies.

Our Design Operations team is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of designers and optimising the efficiency of our Design organisation. This role gets to refine and streamline design practices, systems, and tools to achieve excellence and efficiency at scale.

You'll have the following accountabilities:

  • Contributing to the strategic direction of product design operations, establishing standards and best practices that enhance cross-functional collaboration and communication regarding workflows, project estimations, and long-term planning. You will prioritise tasks based on design capacity and business needs.

  • Implementing continuous improvement opportunities, enabling the design team to focus on creating and delivering high-quality products. Your efforts will also enhance cross-functional collaboration and communication, appropriately prioritising based on design/writing capacity and business needs.

  • Owning and nurturing partnerships with senior stakeholders and other creative leaders, driving the development and improvement of creative operational workflows. You will refine roadmap planning and develop a comprehensive operating plan with immediate and long-term goals and milestones.

  • Acting as the first point of contact for new projects and requests, and coordinating alignment between the design organisation, engineering, and product management teams on project details, creative needs, timelines, and scope.

  • Managing a team of product design operations professionals, recruiting multidisciplinary designers skilled in agile practices and user-centered design methods. You'll take responsibility for setting objectives and fostering the upskilling and development of your team.

  • Championing and continuously developing your team’s knowledge on emerging trends and changes in digital accessibility, sharing this knowledge to ensure everyone is up-to-date.

You'll have the following skills & experience:

  • 6-8 years of relevant professional experience delivering programs that affect people and processes, in design operations, consulting, or business operations

  • Expertise in design practices and methodologies, product development lifecycle, and measurement & evaluation

  • Strong program management and stakeholder management skills

  • Experience driving change management across a large organisation

  • Expertise in measuring impact, identifying risks, and focusing projects on priorities that accomplish outcomes
