Property & Buildings (P&B Structure, Services & Specialists) engineering design require a permanent projects Commercial Manager to support and develop the businesses commercial acumen from mobilisation onto in-flight management and then final account / demobilisation project stages. Moving the business from pricing engineering activity to risk assessment and pricing through considering the whole opportunity including de-risking working capital and debt costs. Working with investors, developers, architects and contractors including overseas clients and moving changes against existing contracts to sustain and enhance margin.

A typical week would include:

Contractual Arrangements

• From a sound knowledge of contractual forms e.g. NEC, JCT, collateral warranties, novation, NDA/CAs, etc. and their application in real design consulting engineering business life.

• Supporting the business in pro-actively negotiating best outcomes, balancing financial performance and risk reduction with ongoing client relationships.

• Ensuring that proposed contractual arrangements are reviewed, risks identified then mitigated and further advice sought as required.

• Triangulation of programme, scope & fee monthly.

• Liaising with the UK legal team also undertake due diligence on potential clients and supplier chain partners.

• Some public-sector in-flight delivery process understanding.

• Strong understanding of contract payment mechanisms: AfPs, administering NEC3/4 Option A, C and E to preserve Target Cost, payless notices, suspension letters etc.

Project Delivery - Change & Working Capital Management

• Ensuring that monthly project reviews are undertaken in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.

• Providing support to the business working closely with the Legal Team where required to prosecute change management in line with contract terms e.g. administering CEs, DoV.

• Assist in the recovery of disputed working capital and debt with the business in accordance with the contracts informal and formal dispute resolution procedures.

Client Facing Support

Provide support to Prospect & Project Directors in the following areas:

• Managing the change process e.g. additional services and fee negotiations.

• Continual commercial improvement against; T&Cs development, market trends e.g. fire and facades in the Specialist team.

• Providing training in commercial management practices within Property & Buildings including lessons learnt.

• Raise commercial awareness in Property & Buildings through regular feedback, bid and project reviews, meetings and training.

• Review and implement improvements to processes, procedures and systems across; bid management, project delivery, final accounts, legal, finance, insurance and governance.

• Have a degree in Engineering or equivalent, including chartership, QS / cost consultant (preferred)

Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC)

• In depth knowledge of NEC3/4 PSC • Possess a good understanding of ‘best practices’ in commercial management

• Are a diplomatic agent for change with the experience, energy and vision to identify

opportunities for innovation

• Are an 'achiever' who enjoys interacting at all levels, getting involved in detail to get the job done and adept at stepping back and taking a broader view.

• Candidates are likely to have a larger corporate background, be used to motivating teams
