About the opportunity:

We are the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver £7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

To support the delivery of the SRP Project, we are seeking a Senior CE&I Engineer to join the design team. Responsibilities of this position are to support the SPRS Modifications design team.

Areas of CE&I design include

  • CE&I control enclosure design, hardwired relay logic, Castell/Fortress key exchange systems.

  • Specialist equipment including SNM Package Inspection (industrial CCTV) and Swab Monitoring (robotics).

  • Building Service systems (power, lighting and fire detection.

Responsibilities:

  • The role will include production and management of CE&I designs, both in-house (build to print) and as part of contracts placed within the supply chain.

  • Provide design support to procurement, manufacture, and installation teams.

  • Management of CE&I design configuration baseline in response to developing project requirements and design information from the supply chain.

  • Checking and reviewing CE&I design deliverables to programme deadlines and to appropriate relevant standards, codes, and regulations.

  • Working with the supply chain, supporting design aspects of contracts in ensuring suppliers meet client Engineering Standards, responding to Technical Queries, supporting production of test specification and attendance at Works Acceptance Testing at supplier facilities.

  • To integrate and coordinate the above CE&I systems into the wider SRP Plant, via Building Interface Modelling (BIM), working with the other engineering and non-technical disciplines.

  • Support the project Commissioning team activities.

  • Responsibility for ensuring that throughout remaining phases of the project lifecycle, the CE&I design intent is aligned to safety case requirements (nuclear and conventional) and ensuring all functional requirements are met, ensuring Validation and Verification is adequately managed.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Has excellent communication skills and is able to interface with all levels of the engineering organisation.

  • Has a BEng/MEng degree or HND/HNC in a relevant field, or demonstrable equivalent experience.

  • Professionally registered or be working towards professional registration.

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role, previous Nuclear experience is highly desirable though not essential providing that suitable experience can be demonstrated. Previous Sellafield brownfield project work is highly desirable.

At interview, shall be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Evidence of their design competence through previous work and projects.

  • Conversant with existing CAE tools, e.g. Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault

  • Independently capable of managing their area of responsibility.

  • Ensuring Validation & Verification is completed throughout project delivery.

Project Overview

The Sellafield Product & Residue Store (SPRS) Retreatment Plant (SRP) Project will provide a facility that receives Special Nuclear Material (SNM) from existing stores across the Sellafield site and processes it into a form suitable for safe and secure storage until 2120. This is a national strategic asset. This new Retreatment Plant project will make Sellafield safer sooner by;

  • Safely receiving all SNM packages from their current storage locations.

  • Retreating and/or repackaging those packages into 100-year packages.

  • Transferring the new 100-year packages to the Sellafield Product & Residue Store (SPRS); and

  • Enabling all SNM to remain safe and secure in this Store - into the next century and beyond.

This role will be engaged with SPRS Modifications scope, a workstream within the SRP Project. The scope includes all work required to modify the existing SPRS plant at Sellafield to accommodate interfaces with the new SRP plant.

The SRP Project is currently in the Construction phase which includes procurement, manufacture, works test, installation, and commissioning. This role is required to provide both design support activities to the supply chain, along with completion of outstanding design scope from earlier project phases. Furthermore, the role will include overseeing implementation of formal Design Change.
