Budget Title: Senior Programmer/Analyst (SL-4)

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Office of Student Affairs Assessment and Solutions for Engagement (SAASE) at Binghamton University is seeking a data architect to join the office.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with the Director of SAASE and divisional partners to build and improve the data infrastructure for the Division of Student Affairs.

  • Develop an understanding of the data housed in various systems within the division of student affairs and how it relates to other university data and systems on campus.

  • Develop processes that improve data access and availability across units and systems.

  • Develop and implement data management processes and procedures to ensure data accuracy, security, and proper use within the division.

  • Develop software processes which consume real-time data exposed via vendor APIs and update a local data model (database) to reflect current and accurate information spanning a variety of vendor systems.

  • Create and maintain a central Student Affairs data hub that brings together key data from various systems for analytical and reporting purposes.

  • Build and maintain Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD), metadata, and other necessary documentation.

  • Develop flexible, reproducible reports, dashboards, and other data products that streamline reporting for the office/division.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional or paraprofessional experience (GA/internship).

  • Strong skills and experience in database design, database administration, and data normalization.

  • Ability to understand and translate the different data needs to operational, technical, and analytical staff.

  • Demonstrated experience with various data extraction tools and methods (SOAP, REST, RPC, GraphQL, XML, JSON, etc.).

  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and maintaining automated ETL processes.

  • Proficient to strong knowledge of Python and SQL.

  • Proficient in using the R programming language to develop reproducible reports, data summaries, and visualizations.

  • Experience developing Shiny apps and other dashboards using R.

  • Strong understanding of relational databases and tidy data structure.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present data concepts in a clear and concise fashion to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
