Guthrie Chaplain - Pastoral Services - Full Time in Binghamton, New York

Position Summary:

A Chaplain ensures the provision of spiritual care to patients/residents, their loved ones, and, as appropriate, to staff. S/he communicates with and is a liaison with the religious community and providers.

Education, License & Cert:

Graduate degree from an accredited seminary, theology, or pastoral care studies program, with additional training in Clinical Spiritual Education (CPE) is preferred. Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or the National Association of Jewish Chaplains preferred. Ordination by a recognized religious body and endorsement by the proper ecclesiastical authority is preferred.

Experience:

Familiarity with “Common Standards for Professional Chaplaincy” and the “Standards of Practice for Professional Chaplains in Acute Care Settings”. Previous Chaplaincy experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensure the delivery of a complete program of spiritual care to patients/residents, their loved ones, and staff of all faith traditions.

•Actively participate in the delivery of spiritual care.

• Ensure that requests for spiritual care are responded to in a respectful manner.

• Ensure that appropriate worship opportunities are provided.

• Ensure that ritual and sacramental needs are communicated to appropriate clergy.

  1. Train and mentor spiritual care volunteers.

• Provide educational opportunities through meetings and access to educational materials.

  1. Support an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care.

• Serve on hospital committees, as appointed.

• Promote an interdisciplinary approach.

  1. Oversee the use and maintenance of the spiritual care offices and chapel.

• Provide proper office supplies, ritual items, and religious literature.

• Provide for the maintenance of office equipment

• Oversee use and maintenance of the chapel.

  1. Contribute to the hospital/ community relationship.

• Participate in teaching and/or public presentations, as invited or needed.

• Attend spiritual care related events, meetings, functions as able.

• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as able.

• Participate in the hospital’s plan for continuous quality improvement.

Pay range min $20.38/hr max $31.81/hr
