CITY OF BILLINGS PLANT MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN in BILLINGS, Montana

The City of Billings is seeking a Plant Maintenance Electrician to perform industrial electrical, instrumentation and electronics maintenance. Under general direction personnel in this position perform a variety of skilled work involved in installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, replacement and calibration of industrial class electrical and electronic equipment, plant automation systems and process control equipment. Duties: - Performs skilled electrical, electronic, automation and process control systems installation, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, repair and replacement activities. - Plans and prepares estimates of time and materials needed to perform work projects. - Assists in maintaining inventory of equipment, tools, parts, and supplies used in the electrical/instrumentation activities. - Installs, maintains, and repairs supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), programmable logic controllers (PLC) and other automation components. - Performs electrical calibrations on systems and instrumentation. - Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs failures in control systems, machinery, equipment, circuits, electrical distribution systems, etc. - Performs electrical preventative maintenance on generator systems, electrical switchgear, electric actuators and other devices and equipment. - Safely operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs medium-voltage class switchgear and motor drives (4,160V - 12,500V). - Installs, maintains, and repairs radio and telephone communication systems, cameras, security systems, and other related devices. - Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs wireless, copper and fiber optic network media and equipment. - Operates a variety of tools and equipment. - May train and technically oversee electrical maintenance personnel. - Employs the automated maintenance management scheduling and tracking systems. - Prepares and modifies electrical schematics. - Knowledgeable in current electrical code. - Employs safe work practices. - Participates in revising, maintaining, and documenting computer programs. - Knowledgeable in water and wastewater practices and processes. - Observes activity and safety hazards in and around the facility and notifies proper personnel when required. Required Qualifications and Skills: - High school diploma or equivalent. - Two (2) years of formal training beyond high school. - Six (6) years of related work experience in electrical and electronic diagnostics, installation, repair, and maintenance. - A valid Montana driver's license or the ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment. - A state-issued journey-level electrician's license, or a journey level certification in instrumentation or industrial electronics from such widely recognized organizations as the International Society of Electronic Technicians (ISCET), the International Society of Automation (ISA), or the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) International, or an acceptable equivalent certification. - Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a Federal and State criminal background check. - Must be able to wear an air-purifying respirator when required. Salary Range: $29.0597 - $37.0445 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 6 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This schedule may vary based on occupational needs.
