Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. MSUB is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and competes at the NCAA Division II level with 15 men’s and women’s varsity teams in basketball, cross country, soccer, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and golf, as well as women’s volleyball, women’s softball, and men’s baseball plus co-educational cheerleading.The Assistant Men’s Baseball Coach reports to the Head Men’s Baseball Coach and is responsible for assisting the Head Men’s Baseball Coach in all aspects of the NCAA Division II intercollegiate men’s baseball program.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:•Recruiting and retaining qualified student-athletes and then mentoring them in their academic performance to assure their academic success and timely progress toward degree completion and graduation. •Coaching and supervising the baseball team during scheduled practices, games, study hall and other events and developing strategies to ensure the appropriate personal and social conduct on-campus and off-campus of the student-athletes, including, but not limited to, exemplary sportsmanship. •Working with MSUB’s strength and conditioning staff and Head Coach to develop and manage an effective in-season and off-season men’s baseball strength and conditioning program. •Working with Head Coach to develop in-season and off-season player skill development programs. • Responsible for creating and presenting opponent scouting reports to the team and Head Coach (assistant coach must be able to effectively use 6-4-3 charts for advanced scouting and analytics). •Making schedule recommendations to the Head Coach and planning the team’s travel arrangements in consultation with the Head Coach. •Maintaining responsibility for expense control compliance with all men’s baseball program expenditures and staying within approved budget parameters. •Directing the men’s baseball program within all NCAA and conference rules and regulations, as well as all state, university, and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations. •Developing strategies to motivate maximum level of individual and team athletic performance required to build and maintain a competitive, high quality, NCAA Division II men’s baseball program. •Developing strategies to ensure the establishment of a safe environment for the men’s baseball student athletes, including but not limited to education on and methods for discussing and resolving harassment and discrimination. •Promoting the athletic program both on-campus and off-campus and actively participating in and contributing professionally to the Athletic Department, the university, and the Billings community. •Fund-raising within the community, coordinated with the Head Coach and Associate Athletic Director for Development and Marketing, and meeting established fund-raising goals for the men’s baseball program. •Planning and conducting baseball camps, clinics, leagues, lessons, and tournaments, coordinated with the Head Coach. •Establishing and maintaining an active Yellowjacket Men’s Baseball Booster Club (under the umbrella of the Yellowjacket Athletic Association). •Teaching university course(s) within an academic discipline (optional). •Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. QUALITIES: •Ability to recruit and retain qualified student-athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation. •Ability to coach effectively at the NCAA Division II level. •Ability to successfully mentor student-athletes. •Effective oral and written communication skills. •Effective computer and technology skills. •Sound human relations skills in dealing with student-athletes, university personnel, corporate sponsors, boosters, parents of student-athletes, and members of the off-campus community. •Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations (preferred). •Successful completion of required annual NCAA Coaches Curriculum module. •Successful completion of CPR and First Aid certification requirements. •Successful completion of a defensive driving/van safety course. •Ability to assist and operate an intercollegiate men’s baseball program within budget parameters. •Ability to raise funds within the community. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: •Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays. •Overnight travel required. •Ability to demonstrate men’s baseball specific skills and strength performance exercises. •Ability to operate a vehicle according to federal and state laws/regulations. •Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Education Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Experience Required: Up to 2 years of coaching baseball. Experience Preferred: •Proven coaching ability. •Ability to effectively use 6-4-3 charts technology. Applicants will be reviewed and interviewed on an ongoing basis after the screening date.
