Job Summary:
Seeking a talented and experienced Principal Systems Engineer to work as a principal Systems Engineer in CR&D or IR&D programs and product development projects. In this role, the selected candidate will be expected to work with customers counterparts and internal engineering management, program management and product management teams on all technical and systems engineering aspects, including but not limited to interact and communicate with customers, understand, and interpret customer needs and requirements, identify and manage performance requirements and requirement compliancy, etc. The selected candidate is also expected to contribute as a system engineer, design engineer, or test engineer in her/his technical expertise areas.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
• Serving Principal Systems Engineer or Chief engineer role, whenever an opportunity appears, responsible for leading full system technical activities on a medium-to-large product or program development through complete life cycle.
• Responsible for receiving and translating customer’s needs and requirements to internal engineering teams.
• Lead technical efforts on program KOM, SRR, PDR, CDR and TRR, PRR etc. ensure the program execution follows system engineering processes.
• Responsible for providing technical direction and path forward to a multi-discipline engineering team.
• Responsible for technical compliancy and successful delivery of the IR&D and CR&D program products to customers.
• Responsible for creating and managing project and product specifications.
• Oversee and ensure key subsystems specification flow-down.
• Working closely with program/project management, ensure the program/project compliance to the specification and on-time delivery within budget.
• Make significant contributions to technical presentations and technical reports, analysis, and proposals to customers.
• Create specifications and test plans for systems with emphasis on sensor technology, optical systems, and system integration and test. Flow down system specifications to subsystems.
• Responsible for leading laboratory testing and qualification efforts for new and existing optical systems and IR sensor products. Develop all necessary test plans, perform data collection, analyze data, and document results.
• Working as an individual contributor SME in expert areas, optical system design, imaging sensor evaluation, gimbal systems architectural, system integration, etc.
• Provide business development support in the areas of new customer requirements analysis, proposal writing, sensor performance modeling and fielding technical inquiries.
• Provide systems engineering support to manufacturing, production and customer service groups as needed in support of existing products. Take a leading role in troubleshooting technical problems.
• Contribute to Intellectual Property development and/or author and/or make substantial contributions to technical papers.
• Lead and contribute to new technology investigations, system trade studies, technical surveys, competitive product analyses, as requested.
Job Qualifications:
• BS or MS or Ph.D. in engineering.
• For Principal systems Engineer, 12+ years direct Systems Engineering experience.
• A few years’ experience in technical lead or chief engineer position in medium to large size programs.
• Good understanding of Gimbal surveillance product development cycle.
• Full system engineering experience in development of large and complex products with EO/IR imaging sensors, Laser tracking & detection, fine and sophisticated mechanical and control subsystems, gimbal systems, etc.; DOD/Space system engineering experience is a plus.
• Strong optical systems engineering experience is preferred.
• Strong experience and capability in leading or working with a multi-discipline team on new product development from conceptual stage to PDR, CDR and to LRIP.
• Demonstrated experience in developing, maintaining, and tracking specification and requirements compliance matrix, risk identification and risk mitigation.
• Experience in system modeling, analysis, design, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in EO/IR imaging optical system designs, sensor/imaging system modelling, characterization, and test.
• Fluent with NVIPM or ZEMAX is a plus.
• Capable of understanding in electrical circuit schematics and mechanical models and drawings, as well as software architecture.
• Experience in leading or participating multidisciplinary engineering efforts (Mechanical, Thermal, electrical, firmware/software, etc.).
• Good understanding of Laser rangefinder, Laser designator and their applications.
• Good communications skills and experience presenting to senior management.
• Good persuasive writing skills.
• A great collaborator.
