About the unit
The Emergency Department at Big Rapids Hospital is a level 4 trauma center that has 15 rooms and 18 patient care spaces. This unit treats patients of all ages with a variety of illnesses which include but are not limited to; Animal Bites, drug overdose, severe bleeding, seizures, severe head injuries, heart attack, poisoning, behavioral health concerns, etc. There is also a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) onsite. Patient ratio for nurse technicians can vary due to census but typically ranges between 8-10 patients per technician.

Scope of work
Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program
