Job Summary

The role of the Senior New Product Definition Engineer is to be involved with IC and board products and projects from inception to delivery. To be successful in this role, candidates must have a wide range of demonstrable skills for dealing with the whole product/project life cycle. Dealing with requirements capture, idea and concept generation, working closely with the development team and involvement with evaluation of the solution against the requirements. Engaging with and supporting customers with new product introduction and support issues as well as gathering requirements. Candidates must have strong theoretical and practical knowledge of electronics and power electronics.

This position will be across our low-power solutions focused on IC level products for off-line AC/DC power converters. Involvement with our board and module level products is also expected including gate drivers and auxiliary power supplies for applications such as industrial motor drives, solar and wind energy systems, electric vehicles and high-voltage DC transmission.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for defining and developing power IC and board products with innovative features.

  • Responsible for idea and concept generation.

  • Participate in the development of compelling IC-based and board-based system solutions, based on customer and market-driven requirements.

  • Validate new topology and product ideas using modern simulation tools and building lab prototypes prior to actual IC design.

  • Be hands on in the lab, actively participating in design verification testing and characterisation.

  • Design power supplies using Power Integrations solutions for validation and customer demonstration.

  • Cooperate with and provide support to the IC design team to ensure the IC implementation meet system requirements.

  • Interfaces with subcontractors.

    Qualifications and experience:

  • BSc/MSc degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Electronics/Power Electronics Design

  • Knowledge in power electronics, analog and mixed signal-electronics.

  • Understanding of power conversion topologies in the 5-200W range including flyback, forward and half bridge topologies for off-line use.

  • Practical bench skills and confident user of lab equipment.

  • Experience with simulation tools.

  • Systematic and result oriented work style, capability for multitasking job. Self-starter.

  • Very good spoken and written English skills, spoken and written German is an advantage.

  • Available to travel occasionally.

    Desirable:

  • Understanding of international EMC and electrical safety regulations.

  • Understanding of gate drivers and power conversion topologies.

  • Hands on experience with high voltage, high power testing is a plus.

  • Transformer and/or Inductor design knowledge and experience.

  • Control loop theory and practice.

  • Software / Simulation tools such as Mathcad, Matlab, Python, LTspice, Simplis, Plecs.

  • Familiarity with digital circuit design, microcontrollers and FPGAs. Verilog programming is a plus.
