Position Title: Electrical & Instrumentation Field Technician I-V (Chemical & Fertilizer Complex) (DOT-PHMSA)

Position Purpose:
This position is responsible to provide electrical and instrumentation (E&I) maintenance services for field process units, including instrumentation and electrical systems such as process instrumentation, valves, motors, and motor controls.
Essential Functions:
Assist with the maintenance, repair, and calibration of plant electrical and instrumentation equipment in a safe, logical, and efficient manner, in compliance with safety regulations.
With assistance, perform basic troubleshooting and assist in the installation/repair/ maintenance of the following:
Distributive Control System
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s)
Temperature and vibration monitoring equipment
Variable Frequency Drives
Instrumentation
Electrical systems, i.e. conduit, lighting, enclosures, etc.
Control Valves
Maintain a general understanding of all 480-volt switchgear and motor control centers.
Ensure that tools and equipment are in sound working condition and performs cleaning duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Two-year degree in an Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Technology Program or
Completion of a ND State Electrical Board approved electrical apprentice program.
General knowledge of electrical drawings, troubleshooting, and repair of three phase alternating current circuits, solid state drives, microprocessor-based programmable controllers, instrumentation and control systems, as well as an understanding of the National Electric Code.
Required to register as an apprentice and work towards a ND Journeyman’s license.
A valid driver’s license. This is a Department of Transportation (DOT) (PHMSA) qualified position.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:
Requires constant walking, sitting, standing, occasional stooping/bending, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, occasional hand grip of 45 pounds, low level and elevated activity, lifting/carrying up to 55 pounds, reaching above and below shoulder level, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 30 pounds, and use of a keyboard/computer and test equipment. Requires continuous use of tools, occasional turning of valves and use of foot controls. Over 45% of the incumbent’s shift is spent outdoors. This position is continuously exposed to noise; frequently exposed to dirt, dust, chemicals, extreme heat and cold; and occasionally exposed to vibration, poor ventilation, and confined areas. The incumbent will be required to wear dust masks, respirators, and full-face Scott Air Paks when necessary. This position frequently requires working in high climbing areas on grating, ladders, scaffolding, and working at heights up to 150 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Requires finger dexterity, hand coordination, color vision, and hearing. The incumbent must have the ability to analyze data and reports, implement recommendations, and follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively with others and present information in a clear, concise manner. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Incumbent may work a 12-hour rotating shift.
Wage: $39.18 - $55.16 per hour
