The Index Support Technician is responsible for the creation of death certificates and the coordination of physician completion for the network in a timely manner. Responsible for patient information being scanned/indexed timely in the hospital EMR system according to department policies and procedures.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accurately completes death certificates and coordinates the completion of the certificate, i.e. physician signature. Communicates with Hospital Supervisor regarding the release of expired bodies
Responds to telephone requests from the patient care units, emergency department and other department and outside customers. Refers release of information calls to the Correspondence staff
Reviews and confirms the authorization of all patient’s information being released through Care Everywhere
Responsible for reporting the Induced Termination of Pregnancy cases monthly to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Retrieves ambulance records for companies that participate in the electronic EMS system. Is responsible for identifying the correct patient and scanning/indexing into the hospital EMR daily
Prepares fetal strips for storage from the Birthing units. Scans and indexes fetal monitor strip identification sheet to the patient record in the hospital EMR
Prepares records for online reviews as requested from outside network vendors. Assists reviewer with process during visit
Indexes patient care documentation received in department and scanned by network patient care units
Responsible for meeting department standards of 24 our TAT and 500 documents per hour
Responsible for meeting department standard of 95% accuracy rate
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for up to 7 hours per day, 3 hours at a time. May require occasional
standing/walking for up to 1 hour per day, 30 minutes at a time. Frequently uses fingers for data entry. Frequent use of hands and fingers as it relates to holding patient records. Uses upper extremities to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds. Hearing as it relates to normal hearing. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, peripheral vision and visual monotony. May require stooping, bending and/or reaching above shoulder level.
EDUCATION :
High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Medical terminology and word processing course preferred. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of 1 year in the medical field or office environment preferred.
