St. Luke's University Health Network Nuclear Medicine/PET Technologist Per Diem in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine studies on patients based on departmental procedures. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist Orders, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals, Schedules IP/OP studies, and adheres to all state and federal regulations dealing with the functions of the Nuclear Medicine Department. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performance of Nuclear Medicine policies and procedures in compliance with St. Luke’s

established protocols and state and federal regulations governing activities in Nuclear

Medicine as found in NUREG 1556, Vol 19, Rev 1.

  1. Educates patients regarding Nuclear Medicine procedures.

  2. Performance of Quality Control on all equipment as it pertains to ACR.

  3. Demonstrates proficiency in venipuncture with radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals

using standard precaution techniques

  1. Demonstrates proficiency in Intramuscular injections

  2. Scheduling of patients and ordering of radionuclides.

  3. Gives direction and assists in clean up of accidents or spills involving radioactive materials.

  4. Maintenance of Hot Lab and waste disposal areas in accordance with NRC and PA state

regulations.

  1. Demonstrates competency in the knowledge of the RIS/HIS/PHS modules appropriate to

their job responsibilities.

  1. Receives radionuclides.

  2. Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in

inservices and/or continuing education programs.

  1. Annual peer review of images meets department standards.

  2. Maintains competence in the use of Nuclear Medicine Information System (NMIS).

  3. Performance of daily/weekly wipes and area monitoring.

  4. Knowledgeable regarding patient condition, history and appropriate background and

information pertinent to proposed examination.

  1. Accountable for quality of digital images sent to PACS. Verify correct patient is selected

from worklist, ensures accuracy of Medical Record information prior to being sent to PACS.

  1. Maintain competence in the use of the Patient Tracking System if applicable.

  2. Responsible for the success of the department to achieve hospital designated Press Ganey

mean score. Every patient should receive patient education and your personalized business

card.

  1. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the

proper release of information.

  1. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and

environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

  1. Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in

interactions with all customers (internal and external).

  1. Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical

Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

  1. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient

use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

  1. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

  2. Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and

development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.

PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting for up to 1 hour at a time per day, standing for up to 1 hour at a time per day, walking for up to 7 hours per day (up to 50 minutes at a time). Frequent fingering, handling and grasping with hands. Frequent use of upper extremities for lifting objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds. Frequent holding of objects of up to 10 pounds. Frequent pushing against objects which weigh up to 100 pounds (objects are usually on wheels) and frequent pulling of objects which weigh up to 350 pounds. Frequent stooping/bending and reaching above the shoulder level and occasional crouching. Feeling as it relates to palpating of patient’s veins. Hearing both high and low frequencies, and volumes ranging from very soft to that of normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, color vision and depth perception.

QUALIFICATIONS

(MINIMUM)

EDUCATION: Graduate of an ARRT, JRCNMT, or CAMRT recognized education program or certified by the ARRT and/or NMTCB, or certification/registry eligible. Must pass registry within 1 year of hire date.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Mandatory competency of clinical experience and didactic training under the supervision of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology. Current CPR certification required before completion of orientation.

WORK SCHEDULE: Day shift with middle shift, night shift, weekends and holidays as required based on the needs of the department. On Call for emergencies.
