The Associate Coach provides support for the head coach for all facets of the program in advancing the mission of the University and Department of Athletics. Specific areas of responsibility include coaching a segment/unit of the team, student athlete development, student athlete recruitment, program administration and program advancement yielding agreed upon results. All activities shall be conducted within the policies and resource framework of the University, the Athletics Department, The Patriot League and the NCAA. This position is a Grade: 10-40 with an approximate salary range of $65,290-$79,430 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications

  1. Student-athlete development

• Develop sport specific student-athletes through counseling, advising, educating, and motivating. • Develop sport specific student-athletes through inspiration, discipline, and rewards. • Monitor, evaluate, and retain sport specific student-athletes. • Organize and execute team building and character development with sport specific student-athletes.

  1. Coaching

• Assist the head coach in all areas of planning (practices, training sessions, team and individual conditioning, line-ups, and competitive strategies), and provide leadership for some aspects of sport specific planning. • Assist in instruction and demonstration of techniques and skills; and conduct specific instruction for some segment of the team roster. • Assist the head coach in evaluating/assessing, effectiveness and results. •Assist the head coach in adapting/refining strategies, making assertive recommendations where appropriate *Communicate with athletes and team members on a regular basis.

  1. Recruiting

• Organize and execute the plan for sport specific athlete recruitment, coordinating communications with relevant on campus and off campus personnel. • Assist in identifying, attracting and selecting specific prospects. • Assist in evaluating prospects (athletically, commitment, character, etc.) through high school visits, at competitions, and/or home visits. • Promote Lehigh through communicating with prospects and families. • Assist in yielding student prospects.

  1. Program administration

• Assist the head coach in planning and evaluating program results, status, and priorities. • Assist in preparing and managing annual program budgets. • Assist in supervising, managing, and evaluating personnel, maintaining responsibility for direct oversight of non-full-time staff members. • Assist in evaluating prospective members of the Coaching Staff. • Assist in scheduling competitions and/or planning tournaments in coordination with appropriate administrator. • Comply with NCAA, League and institutional rules. • Utilize technology to achieve efficiencies and productivity.

  1. Advancement

• Assist in promoting strong public and media relations. • Assist in promoting strong alumni relations (newsletters, fundraising support, and/or Alumni games/gatherings). In some cases, this position will be responsible for planning, executing and evaluating these activities. • Assist in promoting strong parent relations, community relations, and professional relations. * ssist in fulfilling a commitment to service (Departmental, Institutional, and professional).

  1. Results

• Assist in achieving competitive success within the Conference. • Assist in achieving academic success across the team. • Assist in Graduating Student-Athletes at a rate equal to or above the University rate. • Assist in realizing personal growth and development in every Student-Athlete. • Assist in promoting recognition of Student-Athletes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's Degree preferred

• Five to eight years related work experience

• A college degree and experience as a student-athlete required

• NCAA Certification required

• CPR/First Aid required

• NCAA Coaching Certification for Recruiting is required

• Collegiate coaching experience and direct experience with the use of video systems as a tool in the development of athletic skills, and as a means for preparing game plans and tactical strategies

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
