T and T Consulting Services Linux System Administrator in Bethesda, Maryland

REQUIRES 5 DAYS PER WEEK ON-SITE

Project Overview:

Linux System Administrator to join our team to support the activities in Bethesda, MD. As a Linux System Administrator you will be responsible for supporting the Linux environments in both the virtual and physical platform. You will be part of a team supporting several applications, databases, mail servers, filer servers that support NIH missions

In this role the employee will provide IT operational and maintenance support including, but not limited to, system/server and network infrastructure planning, design and configuration, testing and monitoring network resources hardware and software server and special-use workstation installation, performance tuning and maintenance, end-user support and problem resolution, technical system integration, and provide system capacity analysis and planning.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine network maintenance, server installation, configuration, upgrades, optimization, maintenance, and improvements in addition to troubleshooting support for all physical and virtual servers (Unix/Linux) for DHCP, firewall, database, monitoring, and application services. Experience with Mac and Windows environments is a plus.

  • Provide central user support to all Unix/Linux workstations and assist in network administration, installation and troubleshooting of scientific applications such as imaging processing, computational biology or bioinformatics.

  • Automate server deployments through Ansible, Vagrant, Puppet, Packer and vSphere

  • Experience with managed versioning systems such particularly Git to store code and documentation.

  • Deployed and managed Red Hat Satellite Server to manage Red Hat Linux server and workstation infrastructure.

  • Assist the information security team with incident remediation for network and other system vulnerabilities.

  • Limit server downtime resulting from maintenance and improvements to non-production hours whenever possible.

  • Backup of user and server data perform configurations and maintain routinely.

Required qualifications:

  • Ability to pass a background check to obtain Public Trust clearance

  • 5 years server administrator experience

  • BS/BA or equivalent and five years’ experience as a server administrator

  • 3+ years’ experience as a UNIX/Linux administrator, including handling the wide range of hardware and operating system combinations.

  • Experience in automating server configurations and deployments

  • Experience monitoring various types of devices via Splunk, Nagios and custom scripts.

  • 5 years’ experience backing up and restoring services in a layer 2 and 3 architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in installing, configuring, and administrating Windows Enterprise servers and/or Mac application servers and workstations

  • 1+ years’ experience with Spacewalk for Linux server management

  • Ability to manage and communicate project tasks, status, and deadlines

  • Prior Healthcare experience

  • 1+ years working in a multi-OS setup
