Whitsons Culinary Group Quality Control Technician - Berkeley Culinary in Berkely, Illinois

SUMMARY: This position has direct responsibility to ensure that all work activities under its span of control are performed with attention to the highest standards of food quality, safe processes, compliance with all appropriate legal requirements and a focus on continuous process improvement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: * Continually enforce and verify food safety and sanitation policies throughout the plant * Listeria testing * Instrument calibrations * Monthly glass, brittle, and plastic inspection * Monthly food safety inspection * Retained samples collection * Raw material sampling * GMP audits * Team member training on various policies and procedures including GMPs, SOPs and HACCP * In line product weight and temperature verification * Allergen testing * Translate company policies and procedures * Product evaluation * Filing of documents * Daily cleaning * Pre-operational testing using ATP/APC * Communication with production staff when deviations occur Pay rate: $20.00/hour REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES: Education: * High school diploma or GED Certifications: * HACCP certification (preferred) * ServSafe certification (preferred) * Food Safety (preferred) Computer Skills: * Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools and Applications Other Qualifications, Experience and Competencies: * Experience as a QA technician, preferably in a USDA/FDA inspected facility preferred * Must be able to speak, read and write English * Experience with enforcing a HACCP Program * Experience in training and mentoring Team members * Experience with basic lab procedure * Good verbal and written communication skills – Bi-Lingual is a plus * Must be Organized and attentive to details * Must be Self-motivated, have a strong sense of urgency and a bias for action * Must be flexible in challenging and complex work environment while firmly maintaining compliance and upholding standards * Must be flexible in scheduling and being cross trained on different production lines PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Lifting while turning side to side is sometimes necessary * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus Position may require extended hours including evenings and/or weekends WORK ENVIRONMENT: * The work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment, specifically the packing and production areas * Standing most of the workday is required * Work requires movement in and out of storerooms, near heavy machinery and freezers * Exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold) due to cooking and refrigeration equipment * The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
